EcoCamp Recap
Mountain Goats, Marmots and More
We had so much fun at
EcoCamp in July! This year, the ERC offered two, week-long camps that expanded campers' knowledge and love for the natural world in the surrounding Smoky and Boulder Mountains.
There were MANY highlights from both camps, but one of our favorites was seeing long-toed salamanders, mountain goats, marmots, trout, deer, and more at
an 8,700' alpine lake on our last night of the Environmental Leadership EcoCamp.
To see more photos of camp, visit our
Facebook album. Keep your eyes peeled for a blog about camp in the coming weeks.

Pesticide Action
Insectary Update
The Wood River Valley Root Weevil Insectary was relocated in late June with the goal of fostering a more sustainable root-boring weevil (insect) population. The previous location - behind the SNRA headquarters - was found to be too shaded and cool for these heat-loving weevils, so we moved them to a drier, sunnier location. These weevils, also known as
Cyphocleonus achates, are being raised locally as a non-chemical spotted knapweed control.
The Insectary is establishing and thriving in its new location thanks to the efforts of ERC Pesticide Action interns, Grace and Ben, and US Forest Service staff. Look for a press release and blog in the next few weeks to learn more about this exciting move.
