New State ID Option for Military Veterans

Public Act 97-0739 allows veterans who have received an Honorable or General under Honorable Conditions discharge to pursue the veteran's designation on their driver's license or ID card. The veteran's designation will help ensure military veterans living in Illinois receive the services and benefits for which they are entitled, including healthcare, education and employment assistance.

To obtain a veteran designation on your Driver's License or State ID card you must:

  • Be an honorably discharged U.S. Veteran.
  • Take your DD-214 or Certification of Military Service (NA Form 13038) to your local Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs' Office to have a certification stamp placed on your DD-214 or Form 13038.
  • Bring the certified DD-214 or Form 13038 to any Secretary of State Facility to obtain the "Veteran" designation on your Driver's License or State ID card.

If the veteran designation is added during the renewal of your Driver's License or State ID card, there is no additional cost. If a veteran chooses to add the designation before their scheduled renewal date, they may obtain an updated Driver's License for $5.00 and an updated State ID card for $10.00. Veterans over the age of 65 can obtain an updated State ID card at no cost.

To request a certified copy of your DD214, contact the Lake County Recorder's Office at (847) 377-2575 (if you filed yours with them) or contact the Lake County Veteran's Assistance Commission at (847) 377-3344.

Have you looked at your assessment to see if it is correct?

This is a reminder that if you feel your property is incorrectly assessed, you should contact the assessors office with comparable information. The assessor's office sets the value of your property and the taxing bodies set the tax rates.

Please note that this is the only time you can appeal your assessment.  Many people call the assessor's office when the tax bill comes.  That is too late.  You must appeal the value of your home by August 17, 2015.

If you are from Fremont Township and need help with the comparable information, the Lake County Assessor's Office is holding an outreach session on Tuesday, August 11th at 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.at the College of Lake County Southlake Educational Center, 1120 S. Milwaukee Ave, Vernon Hills or call the Lake County Assessor Office at 847 377-2050 to meet with them in Waukegan.

Before filing your appeal, contact the Fremont assessor's office with your evidence. They can be reached at 847 223-2846.  If you are not happy with the outcome of your meeting, the FINAL FILING DATE to appeal for Fremont Township properties will be August 17, 2015.

Village of Mundelein Board of Trustees to Consider Zoning Annexation of Graham Gas Station Property
Our office received questions regarding the annexation of the Graham property so I called the Village of Mundelein Administrator to see if I could get answers to some of the questions.  He sent this information to me.

Village of Mundelein Board of Trustees to Consider Zoning Annexation of

Graham Gas Station Property

The Mundelein Planning and Zoning Commission recently conducted a public hearing on the proposed zoning annexation of the Graham gas station at the corner of Route 60/83 and Midlothian Rd.

Village staff has outlined some basic facts:

Proposed Graham Annexation

  •       The property awaiting proposed annexation is currently located in unincorporated Lake County.  The owner has petitioned Mundelein to annex into the corporate boundary of Mundelein because he wants to have access to/benefit from Village services including: water, Police and Fire.

  •       The Village's portion of West Hawthorne Boulevard right-of-way is planned to be vacated.   This will eliminate the possibility of Hawthorne Blvd. being extended to Midlothian Road.

  •       The parking lot is not being expanded.  Language has been added to the Annexation Agreement that requires the owner to obtain Village Board approval for any future expansion of the parking lot.

  •       West Trinity Drive will not close.  Access to Route 83 from West Trinity Dr. will remain open.

  •       The business owner plans to apply to the State of Illinois for a video gaming license.  Video Gaming is permitted in Mundelein and requires no additional approvals from the Mundelein Village Board.  If the State approves a license, the owner may install up to five (5) video machines.

  •       Currently, the store sells beer, wine, and hard liquor.  If annexed to Mundelein, the proposed liquor license amendments would limit the sale of alcohol to beer and wine.

  •       Interior/Exterior building remodeling is being proposed as part of the annexation.   There is no proposal to expand the existing building or add gasoline/diesel pumps as part of the Annexation.

  •       A truck stop is not being approved as part of the annexation.

  •       The proposed annexation is tentatively planned to be considered by the Village Board on August 24, 2015.

If you have any further questions regarding this issue, please send an email to info@mundelein.org.
