Along about seven miles of Route 7, we're adding a third lane and shared-use paths in each direction, building a pedestrian underpass to access Colvin Run Mill Park, replacing and raising the bridge over Difficult Run, and making many intersection, bicycle and pedestrian improvements. Learn more.
Construction and Design Updates
In July, crews continued construction activities along the corridor:


Area 1 West: Reston Avenue to Baron Cameron Avenue:
  • Completed noise barrier panel installation along westbound Route 7 between Utterback Store Road and Great Passage Boulevard.
  • Performed grading, placed cement-treated aggregate and asphalt, and placed curb stone along westbound Route 7 between Reston Parkway and Reston Avenue, and between Great Passage Boulevard and Utterback Store Road.

Area 1 East: Baron Cameron Avenue to Carpers Farm Way:
  • Completed drilling for noise barrier posts along eastbound Route 7 for Walls G4 and G5 west of Colvin Forest Drive.
  • Starting drilling for noise barrier posts for Wall G3 along eastbound Route 7 east of Capital Church.


  • Continued earth-moving activities at the intersection of Route 7 and Baron Cameron Avenue.


  • Constructed the permanent pavement on Carpers Farm Way.
  • Continued construction of the retaining wall between eastbound Route 7 and the Colvin Run stream channel.
  • Continued installation of steel piles for the eastbound bridge over Difficult Run.


  • Continued storm sewer installation along westbound Route 7 between Trotting Horse Lane and Towlston Road, and commenced storm sewer installation between Towlston Road and Lewinsville Road.
  • Began grading and placement of cement-treated aggregate, curb stone, and asphalt along westbound Route 7 between Beulah Road/Springvale Road and Towlston Road.
  • Started storm sewer pipe crossings between Towlston Road and Lewinsville Road. 
  • Continued water main distribution relocations and tie-ins to existing infrastructure between Towlston Road and Lewinsville Road.

Third-party utility design and relocation activities are also ongoing.

In Case You Missed It
Construction activities along Route 7 will be ongoing through the summer and fall months, and additional traffic shifts and changes will occur in August and September. Please see the project website for information on upcoming lane shifts and other roadway impacts.
