Naramata Centre has flourished this summer with the return of many long-term "Centre people" and also those who came as newcomers to this special place. We were pleased to welcome all who came - whether it was for their first or their 50th visit!

Board Meeting This Weekend
The Board of Directors meets August 25-27 to review the 2017 summer, plan for next year and discuss important issues including land sales and future direction. Watch for the Board Update from Board Chair, Doug Woollard, in the next few weeks.

Last Call For Prize Draw

When the Board meets this weekend, we will draw the name of one lucky Naramata Centre Society member who has bought or renewed her/his membership since the May AGM. Membership is annual, individual, and expires at the AGM. Have you renewed or bought your membership to show your support of the Centre and the Board?  Now is the time!

The winner of the draw will receive a gift package that includes a three-night stay for two at Naramata Centre, lunch at Legends Distilling, and a behind-the-scenes tour of Elephant Island Orchard Wines with an opportunity to participate in the harvest, if the timing is right.
Summer Update
The Okanagan Valley has seen exceptional weather highs and lows this spring and summer, but the Centre has weathered the storm! May and June showers, heavy rainstorms and fierce winds gave way to beautiful hot summer days. There were days with intermittent smoky skies, due to forest fires in the province, but the air is clear now. As a result of the spring storms, the Centre lost its dock and became home to much debris on the beach lawn. However, a hard-working crew of staff and volunteers made short work of that mess leaving a wider, sandier, more welcoming beach that was well-used by guests! Weddings, reunions, Centre participants all graced our beach and lawn.

Summer programs wrap up this week with a yoga program and Lift Your Voice choirs for children, youth and adults.

Fall programs (Art Journaling, Spiritual Eldering, and a Circle of Trust retreat) follow in September. There are still some spots left in each of these programs. Register here  .

Our season ends with the Hearts and Hands volunteer work week in October. Watch for more details about the plans for this volunteer experience.

Winter Session 1978-79 Reunion
by Linda Hatfield
Those were the days: Winter Session 1978-79

Thirty-nine years after living in community together, 26 of 32 participants and two of three leaders of Naramata's Winter Session of 1978-1979 found each other again, with the help of social media, technological detective work, generous gifts of time and talent, and the compelling guidance of God's still, small, voice.

A small core group chose a weekend and organized a Friday night "Meet and Greet" barbeque in Kelowna, followed with a picnic and tour at Naramata Centre the following day.

The reunion planning done by this group could become a template for future reunions!

Gratitude
Janet and John Groen assumed the role of Campground Hosts for the first three weeks of August, and from all reports they were wonderful hosts. They kept a keen eye on the campsite and helped solve issues as they arose. John engaged people through his humor and storytelling, and campers appreciated Janet's helpful and friendly demeanor. Thank you, Janet and John, for your service as fun and welcoming hosts!

Liam Gale and Kyrie Leming
Summer students Liam and Kyrie complete their employment terms at Naramata Centre this week. As they grew into their roles over the summer, Liam and Kyrie built on their previous experience and we thank them for  energy they have contributed, their care for the community and their creative talents. They also brought their own ideas and talents to weekly activities for families on site by DJ-ing some dances and providing Life-Size Clue games! Thanks Liam and Kyrie for your service to the Centre this summer!
