| | When you see Tania Thomas in action, you see a confident community leader, a competent organizer, and someone who is willing to take on any challenge. It's hard to believe she once was a bored and lonely seventh grader, who transformed when she became hooked on the joy she found by giving back through her on-campus Hands4Hope Club. Now, whether she's managing major events like Kids Zone or overcoming her fears to speak to an audience of 500 at Empty Bowls Dinner, Tania embodies what it means to step out of her personal comfort zone and feel empowered. Now a senior at Vista del Lago and serving on the Youth Board Executive Committee, her journey is an inspiring reminder of how service can spark purpose among youth. Read her full story and see why we're so proud to spotlight Tania this month! | | |
Thanks to generous community support, the 12th Annual Hands4Hope School Supply Drive was a success, and Hands4Hope youth participants have been hard at work getting ready for the School Supply Distribution event this Tuesday, August 5! Youth have planned every aspect of the event, from layout to registration, vendors to volunteer management.
They are planning to welcome 700 students in TK-12th grade to "shop" the supplies at the event, getting a new backpack and filling it with what they need for free, unburdening their families and allowing them to put limited resources toward other needs.
You can be part of the magic on Tuesday! More youth participants (7th grade and up) as well as adults are needed to volunteer at the distribution event, especially in the 1 to 3 pm shift. Join us for a memorable way to end summer vacation!
| | The numbers are in, and Kids Zone 2025 was a "sparktacular" success! The Kids Zone Committee, made up of 12 middle and high school youth, planned all aspects of the event, coordinated with El Dorado Hills Town Center and vendors, and ultimately welcomed 559 wristband-wearing kids to enjoy the numerous bounce houses and activities. Together with concession sales and sponsorships, this made Kids Zone 2025 the most financially successful one ever. Read on to learn more about the event and see a video presentation made by youth! | | From a shy freshman unsure about stepping into a leadership role to a confident AmeriCorps member tackling sustainability and public service, Jena Brasil’s journey is a powerful example of growth through Hands4Hope. The Hands4Hope Essentials Committee hosts monthly essential item distributions to provide food, clothing, and toiletries to those in need, runs resource closets at middle and high schools, assists with pop-up shops for homecoming and prom, and facilitates collection drives within the community for food, toiletries, clothing and shoes.
Youth in 7th-12th grades are invited to participate in this year-long after-school committee. Meet new friends from a wide variety of backgrounds while working together on this common cause, and making a difference for those most in need. Adult mentors are needed too!
