GICS Wound Care Survey

Pediatric Wound Care Survey

The following survey is an attempt to find out how best nurses care for Pediatric Acute and Chronic Surgical Wounds in your countries. This survey is designed to collect evidence from nurses about wound care.

This survey is brief and should only take about 5-10 minutes to complete.

The results of this survey will be used to create evidence-based guidelines and recommendations that can be used by nurses around the world to improve wound care for children.

Your input is essential in making this happen, and I hope you will take the time to participate.

Your responses will be kept anonymous, and your participation is completely voluntary.

The results of this survey will be published on the website of the Global Initiative for Children's Surgery (GICS) and the International Society of Pediatric Wound Care (ISPWC). By participating in this survey, you will be helping to improve wound care for children everywhere.

2024 CGN Cultural Humility Course

Register now for our final 2024 classes!

We received great feedback from last year's participants and are excited to continue to offer our 3-hour introductory course on cultural humility for all UCSF nurses, APPs, and faculty. Cultural humility is the cornerstone of all global health work and our expertise on this topic is essential to optimize equitable partnerships and cross-cultural collaborations.

CGN members are required to take this course. Register using the link below if you have not already done so.

Our own UCSF nursing/APP faculty and staff are facilitating the course. Looking forward to seeing you there!

There is no cost for the course at this time. 3 CEUs will be provided.

Abbey Roepke MSN, FNP, MPH

Assistant Clinical Professor | UCSF School of Nursing

Abbey Roepke is a nurse practitioner whose passion for global health started during a community health rotation in an adult literacy center supporting Somalian refugees. From that point on, Abbey has pursued a career focused on lessening inequalities throughout global health systems. She worked as a nurse in cardiothoracic surgery and cardiology ICUs for over 10 years and, in 2017, earned her Master of Public Health and Family Nurse Practitioner degrees. She has practiced in Federally Qualified Health Centers as a nurse practitioner and as a manager of complex care and social service programs. Currently, she works as an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCSF in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program and works as a Nurse Practitioner at the UCSF Screening and Acute Care Clinic.

Throughout her career, she has volunteered with global and local health organizations. In Vietnam and Nepal, she worked as a nurse educator to build the nursing capacity of intensive care units. Additionally, in Kenya, she dedicated her time to strengthening community education programs. She has also worked for Seed Global Health as a nurse educator in Uganda.

Currently, she is working with the USCF Center for Global Health Nursing to support a partnership between UCSF and Partners in Health, providing mentorship to Haitian Emergency Nurse Practitioner students.

A New Funding Opportunity honoring Nancy E.

Adler’s legacy of supporting research on

social determinants of health

The Center for Health and Community in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is pleased to share a new request for pilot research proposals. The Nancy E. Adler Seed Grants Program (ASG) will support projects focused on social and behavioral determinants of health. Annual budgets should not exceed $25,000, and total budgets should not exceed $35,000. Proposals will be considered on a competitive basis through September 16, 2024. This opportunity is restricted to UCSF postdocs and junior faculty. Global Child Health Lecture Series

August 13th- August 22nd, 2024

You are invited to join the 10th annual University of California, San Francisco Global Child Health Lecture Series will be occurring Tuesday, August 13th through Thursday, August 22nd. The lecture series runs for two weeks (the week of August 12th and the week of August 19th). Full schedule available here.

This series of conversations is intended for anyone interested in learning about the state of child health in various settings around the world. You can attend all sessions or select the most relevant to your practice. Sessions are in-person or virtual, hybrid, free, and open to the public. Registration is required.

Support California’s growing and

diversifying public health workforce!

The California Pathways into Public Health Initiative (Pathways), a partnership between CDPH, the Center of Pandemic Preparedness and Response (CPPR), and UCLA, is seeking public health professionals to mentor our next cohort of fellows from August 5, 2024, through August 29, 2025. 

No previous mentorship experience is required. You and your mentee set the mentorship goal, discussion topics, activities, and meeting frequency.  

If you are ready to sign up, please complete this form. The Mentorship Team is here to support the process in any way we can and will be hosting a Mentor Orientation on August 7th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 

The Roving Community Health Initiative is a team of UCSF clinicians (RN, NP, PA) who work alongside community organizations and volunteers to provide vaccinations, wound care, and harm reduction in San Francisco, primarily in the Tenderloin and South of Market. Most of the work is on "roving teams" serving our unhoused and marginally housed community members.

Shifts are paid but voluntary and on top of your regular position at UCSF. RCHI covers your time (including OT when applicable), so your home department is not charged.

You need manager approval to pick up shifts, and shifts should be fine with your home department schedule.

Regular opportunities are:

• Thursday and Saturday 
• 11 am to 4:30 pm (5 hours paid after 30-minute break deducted)

The first hour of each shift includes prep and orientation for newcomers. Clinicians go out in pairs to work together and support each other. Newcomers are paired with somebody with experience.
