🌍✨ Launch of CGN Quality Improvement Fellowship and partnership with the Tonga Ministry of Health ✨🌍
🌺 We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our Global Nursing Quality Improvement (QI) Fellowship in partnership with the Tonga Ministry of Health!
UCSF faculty Dr. Rebecca Silvers, Director of the UCSF Center for Global Nursing, and Dr. Adam Cooper, Director of Nursing Continuous Improvement at UCSF Health, traveled to Tonga to lead an intensive, in-person workshop with nurse educators and health leaders. This workshop marked the beginning of a 9-month fellowship designed to empower nurses with systems thinking, quality tools, and mentorship to lead locally driven improvement projects.
We were deeply honored to be welcomed by Chief Nursing Officer Mele Sii Inukihaangana Filise, CEO Dr. Reynold ‘Ofanoa, Minister of Health Hon. Dr. Saia Piukala, Dr. Giulio Paunga, Vice Chancellor of Tonga University, and the School of Nursing leadership team. Their support reflects a shared commitment to nursing as a catalyst for health system transformation.
This milestone demonstrates the strength of partnership and sustained investment in the nursing workforce as a pathway to improved health outcomes.

Nurses and advanced practice providers play a pivotal role in improving global population health. CGN's Global Nursing Impact Series offers a platform to highlight their leadership and impact in advancing health equity and to promote collaboration on these initiatives. Each session will feature a 20-minute presentation by invited speakers, followed by a Q&A.*
The lecture series is held virtually on the second Tuesday of each month and starts promptly at 7:00 am - 7:30 am PST/4:00 pm - 4:30 pm CEST.

| | In August, CGN will feature Dr. MaryJoy Kaimuri, who serves as the Dean of the School of Nursing at Meru University of Science and Technology in Meru, Kenya. Dr. Kaimuri is passionate about educating the next generation of nurses and has been recognized for her achievements in education and capacity-building programs in Kenya. Dr. Kaimuri's ongoing research projects include non-communicable diseases, clinical mentorship, and reproductive health. | | |

Specialty Coordinator BSN-DNP Midwifery Program | UCSF School of Nursing
Dr. Amy Law is a nurse-midwife, educator, and global collaborator with over two decades of clinical experience at Kaiser Permanente San Jose. In her current role, she serves as the Nurse-Midwifery Specialty Coordinator for UCSF’s BSN Entry to DNP Pathway, where she combines clinical expertise with educational leadership to prepare the next generation of nurse-midwives.
In 2025, Dr. Law joined the inaugural cohort of the UCSF Certificate in Global Nursing. Since then, she has deepened her commitment to global health through collaboration with midwifery faculty at Moi University in Eldoret, Kenya as part of the AMPATH-UCSF partnership. Her work supports bidirectional learning, capacity building, and strengthening midwifery education through equitable, long-term partnerships.

Dr. Law’s dedication to advancing diversity, equity, and global collaboration in nursing and midwifery continues to inspire those around her—and we are proud to celebrate her as this month’s CGN Member Spotlight.

Lao Friends Hospital for Children (LFHC) is the only hospital in northern Laos that provides specialty pediatric care, offering free services to underserved families in the region. It focuses on improving access to essential health services while supporting sustainable healthcare through training local providers. Volunteering offers a meaningful way to contribute to the hospital's mission and make a difference in children's lives.
Lao Friends Hospital for Children accepts applications for medical and nursing volunteers throughout the year. All individuals interested in volunteering should be able to spend two months at LFHC during their first visit. Anyone interested is welcome to send their resumes to hr@fwablaos.org.
