Gene Block to step down as UCLA’s chancellor next summer

As chancellor, Gene Block has continuously promoted a spirit of discovery and collaboration with the greater good in mind. In 2013, he helped launch the first of two "Grand Challenges," an initiative that would go on to be known as the UCLA Sustainable LA Grand Challenge, which aims to turn Los Angeles into the world's most sustainable megacity by 2050. This, along with the Depression Grand Challenge, are potentially UCLA's most transformative research endeavors launched during his tenure.

TRACtion: Transformative Transportation releases Working Groups Synthesis report

TRACtion: Transformative Transportation reached another significant milestone this August with the release of its Working Groups Synthesis report.

In the spring, TRACtion organizers convened five working groups consisting of UCLA faculty, researchers and community partners. The working groups were charged with identifying key issues, research gaps and barriers to a “just transition” for transportation. The synthesis report is the culmination of that work, and it identifies five cross-cutting themes, reflecting different types of challenges to a just and sustainable transportation in Los Angeles.
