DEAR VIBURNUM, WHY SO BLUE?

How many plants can you name with a vivid blue fruit? Because it is so rare, it may make you wonder, "why does it happen?" Here is an article from The New York Times that explains how Viburnum tinus gets its gleam, which may be different than you suspect.

JOIN US FOR THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

As you know, the IPPS ER 2020 Annual Conference is cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Annual General Meeting of our membership will be held virtually on October 20, 2020 at 2 pm EDT. Please mark your calendars and join us so you can be among the first to find out who will be the next IPPS-ER president and new board members!
HANDING OFF YOUR BUSINESS?

Business owners work hard every day to ensure the success of their operations. But many overlook the necessity of having a succession plan. A panel of your peers during the 2019 IPPS-ER Annual Conference shared their succession planning experiences. This newsletter, and last month's, features the unique perspectives of our panelists.

The notes from our panelists, Brian Decker of Decker's Nursery and Kathy McGinty of North Creek Nurseries, provide great insight.
FREE MONTHLY PROGRAMS

In times such as these, when gathering in person cannot be possible, members of the IPPS are finding new ways to continue the mission “to seek and to share.” The IPPS Eastern Region and its members are offering monthly webinars called "microMEETINGS" as a way to educate and collaborate without the need for a physical gathering.

We look forward to sharing microMEETINGS throughout the year. It's a great way to see operations you may otherwise miss due to the distance or timing of the Annual Conference. Maybe you'll want to share your nursery with the members, but you are off the beaten path. Invite us in! Contact Chuck Martin.

DID YOU MISS THE TOUR OF KNIGHT HOLLOW NURSERY? YOU CAN WATCH IT ANYTIME!

In July we offered a virtual tour of Knight Hollow Nursery. Liz Dunham invited attendees in for a behind-the-scenes-tour of the tissue-culture facility. From the culture room, to the micropropagation practices, shipping methods and greenhouse space, Liz educated viewers on the cycles of some of their most popular crops from start-to-finish. The meeting concluded with an in-depth Q&A where attendees had the opportunity to submit questions to Liz and her mother Deb McCowan, the founder of Knight Hollow Nursery.

This video of the microMeeting is available to IPPS members for free here.
