How To Think About Your COVID-19 Risk
A note from Dr. Leslie Saltzman, Medical Director

If you are feeling worried about the rising COVID-19 cases, you are not alone. Despite the reports of breakthrough infections, the majority of patients who are getting sick are unvaccinated. Fully vaccinated people are much less likely to be hospitalized or die than people with similar risk factors who are not vaccinated. Things you can do:

  • Check the virus conditions in your area regularly so you can make informed decisions about your safety and help protect others, especially kids that are not vaccinated

  • If COVID -19 infection rates are high in your area
  • Wear a mask indoors when outside your home
  • Wear a mask in crowded areas outdoors such as outdoor concerts

  • If you are not vaccinated, get vaccinated.
  • If you have concerns about the vaccine or potential side effects, we are happy to discuss them or refer you to an allergist if you are worried about allergic reactions

  • Encourage your eligible household members to get vaccinated
Do I Need a COVID Booster?
Per the CDC and FDA, Americans who have been fully vaccinated do not need a booster shot at this time. There is an on-going process by the FDA, CDC, and NIH to consider whether or when a booster might be necessary. This process takes into account laboratory data, clinical trial data, and cohort data – which can include data from specific pharmaceutical companies, but does not rely on those data exclusively. If boosters are recommended, it is anticipated that they will be offered to high risk people first, much like the original role out of the COVID-19 vaccines.
