Who we are

Smart Start of Davie County connects the community through programs that ensure quality early education, health, and family support for all children prenatal to kindergarten in Davie County.

July RECAP

July marked the beginning of a new program year, and our team hit the ground running! We partnered with Davie County Recreation & Parks for Mobile Rec Days at Lake Louise and the Davie County Senior Center, bringing fun, hands-on early learning opportunities to families throughout our community.

One of our most anticipated events of the year, BLOCKFest, was once again a tremendous success at the Davie County Public Library. We enjoyed partnering with the library for story time and playgroup, where we had the opportunity to connect with an incredible number of local families and share resources that support early childhood development.

To round out a busy month, our team had the opportunity to present at The NEST Rural meeting, a collaboration led by Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Health and community partners, where we shared information about local early childhood resources and programs available to support new and growing families.

We're excited for all that the new program year will bring as we continue working to ensure every child in Davie County enters kindergarten ready to learn!

Board of Directors

Thank you outgoing Board Members Thomas Johnson and Stacy Moyer for your dedication and years of service!

Welcome new Board Members Lee Rollins & Gladys Scott!

The month of July brought updates to our Board of Directors as we welcomed two new members to our Board of Directors: Lee Rollins, Town Manager for the Town of Mocksville, and Gladys Scott, retired school principal. We are grateful to Thomas Johnson of The Resource and Stacy Moyer of Davie County Government for their dedicated service and commitment to Smart Start of Davie County. We also welcomed our 2026–2027 Board officers: Susan Burleson, Executive Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs at Davidson-Davie Community College, as Board Chair; Andrea Kimura of REEB Human Resources as Vice Chair; Heather Phillips of Continuum Capital as Secretary; and Wanda Bowles of Donald G. Bowles, CPA, as Treasurer.
