41 VALOR TEST:

TRIPLE 450s VS TWIN 600s

First, I have to start by talking about the Owners Rendezvous. Ocean Reef Club was the bomb … a great venue that helped us enjoy an amazing event. Thank you to the Intrepid team who worked hard to put the Rendezvous together. And of course, special thanks to the Intrepid Nation for showing up in force. I’ve had so many emails and direct messages after the event saying how much fun everybody had, and we're looking forward to doing it again.

Here's a video of some of the activities and excitement of our time together at Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo:

WATCH RENDEZVOUS RECAP +

The Owners Rendezvous was the debut for the new 41 Valor. When we do a new model, it's really based on information that our owners give us. However, there's an opportunity for us to get something wrong when we interpret that input, so we’re always a little nervous leading up to when everybody gets their first chance to see it and run it and give us their feedback.

I'm excited to say that everybody loved the boat … not only did they love how it rides, they loved the changes that we made and how it feels. That really makes us feel good. If you didn’t get a chance to see the 41 Valor at the Rendezvous, you can experience it at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show when we unveil it to the public.

We also built a second 41 Valor, and that gave us the opportunity to test the performance of the boat with different engine packages. Watch the video to see my “down and dirty” presentation of the data we generated with a side-by-side comparison of one boat equipped with triple 450hp Mercurys versus another boat with twin 600hp Mercurys. You might be surprised how these two boats stacked up in terms of speed, RPMs and fuel consumption.

Another test we performed had to do with one of the biggest things that people want to know: how does the boat perform if you lose one of your engines? Can you get back in successfully if you’re down an engine?

With the twin 600s boat, we trimmed up one of the engines and ran at 26-27 miles an hour. We ran a similar test with triple 450s and ran at 45 miles per hour with one engine trimmed up.

Ultimately, we think the testing confirms the benefits of Intrepid’s approach to design and innovation. We’ve been doing it longer than anyone else and are very proud of our boats.

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone October 26-30 at the

GREAT TIME TOGETHER AT THE

2022 OWNERS RENDEZVOUS

I want to extend a big “THANK YOU” for all the customers and vendors who supported our 2022 Owners Rendezvous, and joined us for an unforgettable celebration at Ocean Reef Club. You make these gatherings special with your energy and enthusiasm.

In addition, Ocean Reef Club was a terrific host for the event and helped us enjoy Key Largo’s activities and recreation to the fullest. The Intrepid team is already hard at work making next year’s Rendezvous even bigger and better. In the meantime, here are some photos of this year’s gathering for you to enjoy.

THE BEST BOAT SHOW

IN THE NORTHEAST

The team is hard at work finalizing our presentation at the Newport International Boat Show on September 15-18. If you haven’t been to this event before, I strongly encourage you to consider attending. I think it’s the premier boat show in the Northeast … really comparable in many ways to the Palm Beach Boat Show, which is a personal favorite.

Newport is a beautiful seaside town and offers many activities and experiences to enjoy. At the boat show, we’ll be located at the corner of Dock S-10 & S-1. Joe, Barrett and I will be there to greet you, along with New Jersey sales partner Sandy Hook Yacht Sales and our Cape Cod sales partner Hyannis Marine. We hope to see you there!

THE CAPTAIN'S CORNER

41 VALOR DEBUTS AT

THE OWNERS RENDEZVOUS

We held our third Intrepid Owners Rendezvous at the Ocean Reef Club in July, and it was a grand success. Everyone enjoyed the new venue, so we plan to be back there next year.

I have to say though, that my favorite part of the weekend was running our new 41 Valor. It was my first opportunity to get out on this new model and use it in real world conditions. It’s an amazing vessel that will give its owners many years of pleasure!

I traveled to Intrepid Southeast in Dania this month to shoot an owner’s manual video for the new 41 Valor. Our video format makes understanding systems and operation of our boats easier and has been well received by our customers.

Mike Plante is our videographer and has won Emmy awards for his work. He and I have been working together on these manuals for over three years now and have a very good system in place for producing manuals that are presented in an easily accessible, searchable format. He will be editing and preparing the 41 Valor manual for inclusion on our website in the coming weeks. Stand by, we’ll post it as soon as finishing touches are put onto it.

CHANGING SEASONS BRING

NEW BOATING OPPORTUNITIES

It's been a long hot summer this year, so the September Equinox can’t get here soon enough to suit me! I look forward to some cooler weather here in Florida and am reminded of how nice cruising during Indian Summer can be in the parts of the world where winter will soon be starting. Cruising your favorite waterway to see the leaves change color is just one example of time on the water that could be fun this fall. The cooler weather and marinas that aren’t as crowded as they are during the summer are welcome features of making plans for cruising at this time of the year as well.

BOAT SHOW

SEASON APPROACHES

We are headed to the Newport boat show in mid-September. This show will be the kickoff for this season’s boat shows. Fort Lauderdale, Stuart, Palm Beach, and Sarasota will follow. As soon as we get back from Newport, we will begin making plans for our display at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The shows are a great way for us to showcase our new models, but for us to also be able to catch up with our Intrepid Nation friends and share stories of what we’ve all been doing this year. I hope to see you there.

IT'S A GOOD TIME TO

INVENTORY YOUR SAFETY KIT

Visual distress flares are an important component of the safety kit on any boat and need to be current. It would be terrible to be in a situation in which they are needed only to find that they are expired or unusable. There are choices - red parachute, red aerial and handheld red signal flares are acceptable for day or night use. Handheld orange smoke signal, electronic SOS beacons, and 3-foot square orange distress flags are acceptable for daytime use.

Flare kits in a watertight carrying case or canister are my preferences. Pyrotechnic flares are one choice, electronic flares used in conjunction with a distress flag are also legal. There are expiration dates on pyrotechnic devices and batteries on electronic flares that can weaken over time, so it’s important to check these on a regular basis. Disposing of expired pyrotechnic flares must be done properly as well.

So far, this year's hurricane season has been quiet, but I would like to remind everybody that it's always possible to have a storm come through at this time of the year. With that in mind, the safety of family and friends is paramount. In addition, it’s important to keep your boat out of harm's way if a storm approaches. If we can offer any advice on making a hurricane plan or answer any questions on that matter, please let me know.

Enjoy the rest of the summer wherever you are and keep in touch. Let me know if you find yourself in the Tampa Bay area anytime soon so we can arrange a visit to our factory.

Happy Boating,
Joe
