Last Saturday’s domestic terrorist attack here in our city sparked a flood of emotions and reactions. We all were awaken to the hate and bigotry that lies in some peoples’ hearts. I would like to take this chance to applaud the resident organizations of the Jefferson School City Center for their efforts in supporting our community and starting the healing process. The Jefferson School African-American Heritage Center kicked started this week by hosting a community conversation on the recent events. Common Ground Healing Arts provided free massages and acupuncture on Wednesday. The Women's Initiative provided an additional free walk-in clinic to offer counsel and they provided a powerful self-care checklist. The checklist is posted at the end of the newsletter.
I would like to thank these organizations for their courageous and compassionate efforts in healing our community. Thank you to all of our resident organizations that provided a letter and statement in response to the devastating events and for serving our local community daily! Thank you to all of our community supporters and donors that appreciate and value the work and missions our resident organizations deliver and uphold. I want to provide my deepest condolences to the families that lost their loved ones on Saturday and to all that were injured or harmed standing up for equality and against racism. Love conquers all and we will prevail against this evil and ignorance. Please continue to support, donate and attend events and programming here at the Jefferson School City Center to be educated on the history of this city, to be uplifted, healed and inspired by the Soul of the City.
