Hello Barclay Downs Neighbors -

Happy Back to School time! While this is not a typical back to school by any means, I am wishing you all a smooth transition back to whatever type of schooling you and your kids are undertaking - virtual, remote, hybrid, etc.

While I personally will be sad not to see all of cute faces walking to and from school, I am hopeful that this time will teach all of us about resilience and looking for the bright spots in all moments!

With important elections coming up, here are voter resources for you:
  • Check your registration status HERE
  • Information about ballet, district etc. HERE. 
  • Absentee Ballot HERE . If you do not want to vote in person, you must request an absentee ballot. You can always change your mind, but you must request by Oct. 27th . Once you get your form, you must print, fill out and mail back no later than Nov. 3d. It must be signed, have 1 witness. You can also drop it off to the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections at 741 Kenilworth Ave. if you don’t want to mail.
  • Early voting is October 15th-October 31st.
Check out the latest news on construction and development in the Southpark area from SPAN (SouthPark Area Neighborhoods).

Under Construction:
  • The Hazel. (Apartment Project behind Reid’s). Pre-Leasing has started for apartments. Retail leasing has been delayed by Covid-19.
  • The Nolen. (For sale Town homes on Runnymede). Project is under construction with estimated completion date of late 2021.
  • The Apex. ( Morrison and Sharon). Construction is on-going with estimated completion date for the first phase later this year. Retail leasing has been impacted by Covid-19.
  • The Colony (Rexford and Sharon). Although Publix is still coming, tenant mix has been impacted by Covid-19, Construction of phase 1(340 apartments) is underway. Phase 1 will include a portion of the planned Rexford Rd extension (from Roxborough to Colony Plaza Dr.)
  • The Barclay at SouthPark. (Continuing Care facility on Barclay Downs Dr.) Pre-leasing has started and the Canopy Hilton Hotel adjacent to the site is open. Hotel includes an artisan farm-to-table restaurant.
  • Sharon Towers (Continuing Care facility). Construction is on-going although construction of the wellness facility and retail space has been delayed due to Covid-19. The first phase will be opened Falll 2021. Park improvements are expected to begin 3Q 2021.
