Wine of the Month: Gewurztraminer

Our 2011 Gewurztraminer, done in the Alsatian style, has a great balance of fruit and acidity, while still being lush and weighty on the palate. Possessing flavors of honey, rose, lychee, a hint of white pepper, this wine pairs well with smoked turkey, Asian cuisine, or anything with a spicy kick.

Special Price: $16.20 per bottle*

We can ship wine to the following states: AL, AK, CO, FL, GA, LA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, NH, NY, NC, TX, VA, DC, WV.

Pulling Into Fall Harvest

As we enter the later months of summer and prepare for harvest, our vineyard crew has been diligently working on pulling leaves. There are a few reasons why we pull leaves. The first is that it allows more air to flow through the fruiting zone. This is particularly beneficial in humid climates, such as ours, because it keeps grapes drier, reducing susceptibility to fungi.

We also pull leaves because the more sunshine the grapes see, the warmer they get. Increased temperature in the fruiting zone increases enzymatic activity inside the berry. In simpler terms, it can reduce acidity in the grapes. Increased temperature can also affect how the wine will later taste and smell, as well as its sugar content.
