Through the Visitor Center, it helps boost economic development and tourism by showcasing the attractions and unique heritage of Crisfield, often referred to as the “Crab Capital of the World”. The Chamber coordinates and sustains community programs and events that bring people to the area and benefit local commerce. This includes signature festivals like the National Hard Crab Derby and the Tawes Crab & Clam Bake. UMES Agritourism Workshop

Learn how agritourism can broaden your profitability and keep your farm and business safe by building long-term protection in changing economic times at the next Maryland Agritourism Webinar Series hosted by University of Maryland Eastern Shore Extension.

The webinar will be held from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, via Teams.

 Data Show Changes in Sources of State Tax Revenue Over 123 Years

When the U.S. Census Bureau began collecting government finance data in 1902, there were no state sales taxes on general sales, tobacco, motor fuel or alcohol.

Fast forward 123 years to 2025, when every state collected some form of general or selective sales and gross receipt taxes, accounting for the largest portion – 45.4% – of tax revenue nationally.

At the beginning of the 20th century, there were no state income taxes because they were too difficult to administer. In 2025, 44 states collected personal income taxes, by then the nation’s second-largest source of tax revenue (33.7%).

The nation’s tax structure has changed significantly since the Census Bureau began tracking it in 1902.

Property taxes’ share of revenue plummeted, sales tax grew and income tax was introduced. Another key difference: the diminished share of license taxes.

In 1927, for example, license taxes accounted for their largest historical share (28.9%) of the national total state tax revenue, compared to just 4.7% in 2025.

Though license taxes are still collected, corporate income and other types of taxes perform the function of capturing revenue from businesses.

TidalHealth's Mobile Mammography Launch



TidalHealth announced the public launch of TidalHealth Mobile Mammography, a new mobile breast imaging service that will travel throughout Delmarva, bringing lifesaving 3D mammograms directly into neighborhoods, workplaces and community gathering places.

TidalHealth Mobile Mammography represents a new model for delivering preventive healthcare — bringing high-quality breast cancer screening, patient navigation and community partnerships directly into neighborhoods across Delmarva. The mobile mammography unit will provide screening mammograms at community locations throughout the region, including employer sites, community events, health fairs,TidalHealth locations, partner organizations and areas where access to preventative screening may be limited.

Patients must meet screening mammography guidelines and may need an appointment. They should bring their insurance card, photo identification and the name of their primary care practitioner or ordering practitioner, if applicable.
