Community Support

We are thrilled to be part of a community that purposefully comes together to put food in the hands of those who are hungry and are experiencing food insecurity. Through our new partnership with Share My Meals, Sparrow House now receives weekly donations of prepared food from several local sources. We are truly grateful for the hard work and effort put forth by the Share My Meals team to recover nutritious fresh food and quickly get it distributed to folks in need.

We want to thank and recognize the generous donors, FLIK Hospitality Group at BASF, Florham Park, SAGE Dining Services at Gil St. Bernards School, Peapack, and NEXDINE Hospitality at Insmed, Bridgewater, who consistently pass along their outstanding meals, vegetables, fruit, and much more to us each week so that others who are struggling receive comfort.

Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Amanda!

Our dedicated volunteer, Amanda, has been serving with the Sparrow House team for several months. She enjoys serving hot meals, and is known for providing delicious homemade applesauce made by her and her children.

Amanda is so supportive that she even came to Newark from her hometown of Long Valley just three days after major surgery so that she could provide comfort to those we serve.

Thank you, Amanda, for your continuous dedication and time spent uplifting those in need!

Did you Know?

Homelessness and Maturing Adults

There are currently over 2,000 NJ residents age 55 and over who are experiencing homelessness. The average monthly Supplemental Security Income benefit for older adults is $631.99. The average monthly rent for an apartment in NJ is $1,850. Many of the folks we serve fall into this incredibly large gap. "This is not what I pictured as my retirement," is one of the many sentiments we hear. Only when communities provide affordable senior housing, can older adults who are experiencing homelessness have an opportunity to regain self-sufficiency and begin a new chapter of independent living.
