Romance Awareness Month
Do you know that August is National Romance Awareness Month?
It was chosen in August since Romance Awareness Day is on August 14th. Romance Awareness Month was created to encourage couples to give attention to their relationship at all times of the year.
August is also Read A Romance Month. It has been celebrated since 2013 for romance readers to celebrate their love of love.
Some ways to show your partner you love them on Romance Awareness Month
Create an “I Love You to Pieces” Jar
Fill up a mason jar with Reese’s Pieces (or your partner’s other favorite candy) and leave it as a surprise for them in the morning! Along with the jar, write a quick note that includes ten reasons you “love them to pieces.”
There’s no quicker way to someone’s heart than through candy. More important, however, is that you are taking the time to create a small gift you know will brighten your day. Whenever they grab a piece from the jar, they will think about you and those ten reasons you love them.
Send a Super Sweet Text
Okay, okay. I know this sounds simple—almost too simple. But trust us on this: Sending your partner a text that says something like, “I just wanted to tell you I love you lots! 🙂 I hope you have a good day at work and can’t wait to see you later!” will surely bring a smile to their face!
In such a fast-paced, busy world, we forget the small things. Yes, those texts may seem simple, but they can strongly impact your partner’s day.
Go for a Morning or Evening Walk
A walk through the park is a good way to get out of the house and a great way to stay healthy! It is also a great way to bond and spend quality time together. Bonus points if you bring your dog!
Did you know that exercising and doing physical activities can help your body release dopamine, boosting your mood? After a long day at work, it’s easy to feel too drained to do much, but sometimes, the best thing you can do to reset and reconnect with your partner is a quick walk around the block.
Love Notes
If you prefer doing things the old-fashioned way and would rather leave little notes than send a text, here’s a fun way to do so! Gather up all those spare post-it notes around the house, write down things you love about your partner, and place them in the shape of a heart in their mirror!
You can also get a little sneaky and hide them around the house for your partner to find. Tell them you’ve hidden ten notes around the house, and if they find all ten, you’ll give them a big kiss! 😉
Have a Water Balloon Fight
It may be Romance Awareness Month, but that doesn’t stop it from being a hundred degrees outside! Run to the store and prepare water balloons for your partner when they get home. They're great for playful or spontaneous couples or those needing to cool down!
Sometimes, we don’t take enough time to be playful. Laughter and spontaneity are some of the most important ingredients for building more romance in a relationship, and this activity is perfect for that!
Love Letter or Poem
Start by writing a simple love letter (or your partner’s favorite love poem) on a piece of paper; you can either leave it on their side of the bed to find or glue it to cardboard, cut it into puzzle-shaped pieces, and leave it on the bed for them to find! You can even hide it somewhere you know they’ll see it the next day.
Be honest. How many poems or love letters do YOU write to your partner? Sure, after a decade together, it may feel silly and seem like a lot of energy to put into expressing something your partner already knows, but think of how special that moment will be when they read it. That look will be worth all the work times ten!
Send Flowers
This is another super simple gesture, but sometimes the small things can mean the most! Send your partner flowers at work (or pick some up on the way home) to make their day brighter!
Completely surprising your partner is a great way to make them feel appreciated and loved. Getting a sweet bouquet of their favorite flowers delivered to their desk can do just that!
There’s Always Room for Dessert
On your way home from work, swing by a bakery and pick up your favorite dessert. Either surprise them after dinner or as soon as they get home!
Believe it or not, knowing what kind of dessert your partner enjoys shows how much you love them and illustrates your connection. Sometimes, being understood is the best gift—that and chocolate cake.
Breakfast in Bed
Many of these ideas involve food, but who doesn’t love food? Especially when it’s hand-delivered! Breakfast in bed will surely bring a smile to your partner’s face, and they’ll remember it for the rest of the day!
All it takes is for you to get up just 30 minutes early. A small price to pay to make your partner feel loved, wouldn’t you say?
Ask Them on a Date
When were you (or your partner) last asked on a date? Remember all those butterflies when you asked (or were asked)? Step back into the shoes of a younger you, build up the courage, and ask them out! It’ll be a silly memory you’ll have forever, plus it can help strengthen your bond!
As we get further into our relationship, sometimes those romantic things we did for each other early on go away. So, let’s bring them back! How romantic would it be to see your partner all dressed up, asking you out on a special date night with a single red rose?
Snuggle
Sometimes, all they need (and you) is a snuggle session. Step up your snuggle game with extra comfy blankets, this will make it impossible to want to do anything else!
Physical touch is important to building intimacy and romance in your relationship. Often, we don’t take enough time to cuddle, so find some time to wrap each other up in your arms!
Take a Drive Together
If you’re like us and located in Central California, the mountains (or beach) are just a few hours away, making it a perfect getaway! Or if you’re farther away from nature’s wonders, even a drive across town to your favorite ice cream shop will do! (Now is a good time to play that playlist you made for them earlier!)
Heck, you can even take a drive around the block. The beauty of this activity is that it gets you away from life’s distractions so you can focus on each other. Even 5-10 minutes of alone time together can greatly impact.
Indoor or Backyard Picnic
When your partner gets home from work, picnic in the backyard or on the patio (or living room if the weather isn’t ideal). Prepare their favorite picnic dishes and spend some time in the fresh air!
Like many of our other ideas, this one involves creating quality time and separating you from distractions so you can reconnect. Switching things up occasionally can give you the spontaneity you need to create some romance.
At-Home Movie Night
Let your partner pick their movie for the night and give them options for different-flavored popcorn! Afterward, you can make some ice cream sundaes and fill them with your favorite toppings!
It's a classic, but it’s a classic for a reason, right? Snuggle up on the couch or in bed and watch a movie together. Simple and easy date night!
Say “I Love You.”
Start and end every day together by saying these three simple words. Yes, chances are your partner knows you love them, but there’s nothing like hearing it. This can go a long way and make them feel great knowing they’re loved.
How many times do you say “I Love You”? Not “love ya” or “luh you”, but taking the time to deliberately say those three words, looking them deep into their eyes? At the end of the day, that attention and affirmation that you love them is the greatest thing you can give.
