The costs of cancer do not impact all patients equally

Many people who have survived cancer experience financial hardship including problems paying bills, depletion of savings, delaying or skipping needed medical care, and potential bankruptcy. These costs do not impact all individuals equally. As seen in the visual below, found on page 4 of The Costs of Cancer (2020), cancer patients are more likely to experience financial hardship if they are:

  • Patients 18-54
  • People of color
  • Less educated individuals
  • Lower income individuals

Meet Alesha Hodorff, Board Member

Alesha is currently an Oncology Account Manager for a large pharmaceutical company in the breast cancer industry. She has over 18 years of experience working in the healthcare field in various capacities, and over 6 years specifically focused in Oncology. She is excited to bring her passion for helping patients, strong relationship building skills, and love of event planning to the Hope Chest Board. Not only is she professionally invested in helping patients fighting breast cancer but recently a close friend went through her own personal battle. Seeing what patients go through during their journey and the challenges they face in all areas of their life made Alesha want to get involved and give back as much as she can to help as many patients as possible.

We are pleased to have Alesha on our team to support Minnesota Breast Cancer Patients.

If you are interested in taking a more active role by joining the Hope Chest For Breast Cancer Board or helping with events please connect with Executive Director, Maureen Scallen Failor, via email.
