Together We Can Achieve Impossible Goals
Dear District 18 Toastmasters,

Together we can achieve the impossible. As a matter of fact, if you really look at the word it reads I’m possible, as Audrey Hepburn pointed out.

If you are possible, then collectively with teamwork we can accomplish our shared goal of making District 18 the place where members thrive!

Each year we begin the Distinguished District Plan with a new opportunity to perform. As a district we are measured by three metrics, Paid Clubs which is the total number of clubs in District 18, Payments, which is our charter strength per club, and Distinguished Clubs which counts how many of our clubs achieved Distinguished Status or better.

The Dashboard is where the information is stored and updated weekly. The goals section outlines what we need to achieve the goal. The numbers in white are where we landed. The numbers in gray detail where we need to be “if” we want the goal.
Level up this year and strive to do better than you did last year. Gaining a new club in your Area and achieving DCP will help Areas and Divisions to become Distinguished or better. If you notice the bottom metric there is now a Smedley Distinguished category, which is only for the most focused Toastmasters!

Our purpose this year is to use a Team Lift. The Distinguished District program is heavy. No- one member can save the District! Not one Club, Area or Division can achieve the Distinguished District Program either. Together everyone achieves more . Toastmasters is the finest communications and leadership development organization on the planet where we take turns leading, and leading is so much fun together !

Welcome to the 2019-2020 Toastmasters year.

Aaron Beverly Represents District 18 at International Convention in Denver
Aaron Beverly, of Philadelphia, outshined his fellow speech contestants to win the region quarterfinals level of the Toastmasters International Speech Contest. Beverly advances to the semifinal rounds of the contest, vying for one of six spots in the World Championship of Public Speaking® to be held at the Toastmasters International Convention Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019, in Denver, Colorado.

Beverly, a member of Christiana Keynotes Toastmasters Club at JP Morgan Chase & Co in Newark, Delaware, surpassed fierce competition to win over the judges with his speech, “The Greatest Stories That You Will Ever Hear.” The speech focuses on the power of unity through sharing of family stories.

This isn't Beverly's first trip to the International Speech Contest. CLICK HERE to see Beverly's 2016 speech, which earned him second place.

The Road to the International Convention
Did you know there is a road in District 18 that will take you straight to Denver,Colorado? Denver is about 1,700 miles by car from where we are on Interstate 70 (you can catch it on the way to Frederick MD). If you haven’t planned to attend the convention there is still time to reserve your seat. Events can be purchased a-la-cart, so you can pick and choose which events to attend, and of course you can’t miss the World Championship of Public Speaking!

Need help covering the cost of the trip? Consider asking your employer for sponsorship. You may be surprised with a yes!

If a long road trip isn’t for you consider flying, or perhaps taking the train or an RV. Biking, hiking and roller skating are also great options to log those 1,700 miles for those of you with a little more time. There is nothing like a great adventure!

There are so many Pathways you can take to Denver! Let’s Team Lift Aaron Beverly to victory by showing our support!

From Your Club Growth Director
Greetings Fellow Toastmasters,

Our first month of the new Toastmasters year is virtually behind us. And yet, so much has already happened.

We’ve already had Area Directors reaching out to and visiting clubs, Division Directors executing TLI trainings, in order to “set up” District Club Officers for success, AND plans are already in place for the District 18 Training Extravaganza coming up in September!

While each of us strive to grow our own communication and leadership skills, in the coming 11 months, we need to also share our knowledge and experience with new and existing clubs and members.

As your District 18 Club Growth Director, I not only want to grow the District by creating new clubs, I also want to support existing clubs and ensure they continue to exist as strong and vibrant clubs.

That’s where I need your help. Mentorship is key. Each and every member, new or tenured, needs to feel a sense of accomplishment, recognition and fulfillment. Mentorship is integral to the success of each member and club. Mentorship is a “bygone conclusion”. It works, not only in Toastmasters, but in all facets of life and work. Mentors provide encouragement, knowledge, coaching and insight with performance challenges to overcome.

I am here to serve and I want nothing but success for this District, it’s clubs and every single member. Let me know how I can assist you in your journey.

Yours in service,
Benjamin Crist
