Happy Labor Day!

Happy Labor Day from Puppies ‘N Love and Animal Kingdom! We hope that you are enjoying these last days of summer and that you will have a chance to kick your feet up and relax a little bit this weekend!

Dogs have served many roles throughout history. Many dog breeds were created specifically to fill a certain role. In honor of Labor Day, here are some very special jobs that some dog breeds have played:

Samoyeds – These fluffy cloud-like dogs bear somewhat of a resemblance to Huskies, and that’s no accident. Just like Huskies, Samoyeds have fur made to withstand arctic temperatures as they pulled sleds. They also herded reindeer and kept watch over their family.

Corgis – Legend has it that Corgis were originally bred to be serve as steeds to fairies, and the marks on their coat were from the fairy’s saddles. In reality, these pint-sized pups were meant to work on farmyards, and they did everything from herding to rodent control to protecting their families.

Papillons – Some dogs are just bred to be beautiful and sweet! Papillons, named after the French word for butterfly for their big butterfly-like ears, were bred to be companions for noblewomen. Their delicate likenesses can be seen in many portraits of noblewomen holding their beloved pets.

Dachshunds – Another breed that is small but fierce is the dachshund! While they may be known colloquially as “wiener dogs”, their name actually translates to “badger dog”. That is because they were bred to slip into badger holes and take on these not-inconsiderable foes! No wonder dachshunds seem to think they’re ten feet tall!

Dalmatians – When you think of Dalmatians, you may think right away of firetrucks, but you might be surprised how they came to be associated with that gig! Dalmatians were bred to accompany carriages, meaning that they had a strong bond to the horses. Back when firetrucks were still drawn by horses, Dalmatians were brought along to keep the horses calm and protect them while the firemen were away.

Newfoundlands – Newfies to the rescue! These gentle giants were bred for water rescue and they even have webbed toes! They are big enough to support a drowning man or to help fisherman haul their massive nets or carry supplies. They are also known for being devoted to their families, such that when J.M. Barrie wrote Peter Pan, he based the devoted canine nurse “Nana” on a Newfoundland.

Spring 2024 Breeder Trip

We are proud to work with breeders that are committed to animal welfare, and twice per year we even visit a number of these breeders! Meet one of the breeders from our latest trip - Kelley Luttrell!

Some words from Kelley:

"In addition to owning and operating my breeding facility, I have owned and operated my own grooming business and boarding facility. My breeding dogs and the puppies I raise are my heart and soul. It’s very rewarding to raise happy, healthy and very well socialized fur babies to bring many years of love and joy to other peoples’ lives.”

We assume a lifetime responsibility for every puppy we send home. Our Homes for Life program is the result of this commitment and our dedication to preventing pet homelessness.

We understand that for unfortunate and unforeseen reasons sometimes customers who purchase our puppies can no longer care for them. For this reason, our customers agree to relinquish the dog to us, not a shelter.

We do this to ensure that we can find them a new, loving home but first provide them with the rehabilitation and care that they may need in addition to a neuter/spay as part of our commitment to responsible pet ownership.

Who We Are
If you're new around here, please watch our newest introduction video that illustrates our mission, values, how we care for our puppies and our quality breeders:
To ensure that all of our puppies find homes in a timely manner, we reduce their price as they age.

By no means are we lowering the cost of these puppies because they are in any way less valuable, but it’s our mission to find each of our puppies a permanent, loving home as quickly as possible.

This guy puts the “sweet” in “Wheaten”! This bouncy boy is very attentive to his handler and will form a close bond with the lucky family that takes him home. He loves treats almost as much as he loves being close with his humans! Come meet him today at our San Tan Village location, or give us a call at 480-917-3437.

Stars of the Month

Good things come in twos… no, threes? No, four! That’s right, this month’s spotlight is on these FOUR bulldogs living happily under one roof! Meet Zoey, Rocky, Maggie, and Ludo! Here is a little bit from their family:

What was your experience with Animal Kingdom/Puppies ‘N Love?

Our experience has been awesome. All 4 times! The staff has been extremely helpful and made it so easy to take home each one of our fur babies.

How do your dogs make your life better?

They are so much more then pets to us. They are members of our family. Unless you own an English Bulldog, you will never understand the wonderful personality of these animals. They are truly amazing, loving, and just plain hilarious creatures.

Local Corner

Recently awarded Phoenix Best in the Valley for Pet Sitting, Hand & Hound is a great resource for pet owners needing extra exercise and enrichment for their pets or coverage while traveling!

At Hand & Hound, they strive to get to know pet owners and their pets as if they were their own while also incorporating professional standards, such as Pet First Aid + CPR training.

They know how hard it is to trust whoever is coming into your home and caring for your pets, so every sitter is expected to be fully transparent and communicate all details to pet owners, through a mobile app that has GPS-verified reports.

Like your neighbor, but with more credentials!

National Dog News
BUYERS BEWARE
ARIZONA RANKS HIGH ON BBB'S LIST OF PUPPY SCAMS COMMITTED IN 2022
In the last few years, online pet scams are on the rise and have caused grief for people seeking new pets, with little to no recourse for the victims.

According to the Better Business Bureau, Arizona is at the top of the list for puppy scams per 100k people.

California is the state with the most reported puppy scams, with 167 scams reported to the Better Business Bureau from January 1, 2022 to October 31, 2022. This makes up more than 10% of the total number of scams reported nationwide.

SPOTTING A SCAM

If you are looking for a puppy, be careful & remain vigilant!

Here is how to spot a puppy scam online from AKC:

  • No phone calls. The seller prefers to handle communication by email and not the phone. A reputable breeder will always communicate with you via phone or video chat (if not in person) before selling you a puppy. Fraudulent sellers are oftentimes outside of the U.S. and may be hiding their phone number by only communicating by email.
  • Copycat or stock photos. Photos of the dog or ad text can be found on multiple websites. Search for the text or reverse image search the photos on Google to find out if they were copied.
  • Sketchy payment. The seller asks for wiring of money or payment by gift cards. Be aware that if you choose a non-secure method of payment, it is highly unlikely that you will get your money back. Avoid paying a stranger using apps such as Venmo, as it is harder to get your money back if you don’t get what you paid for.
  • Price is too good to be true. Research the prices for the breed you are considering. Purebred dogs sold at deeply discounted prices are typically frauds. If the seller says they register their dogs with a specific organization, you can call the organization to confirm.
