An awful lot of time has passed since we first announced the details of our 10th Winning Hearts Benefit Auction. Of course, when we announced it over a year and a half ago, a tremendous amount of things have changed in the world.
It looks like the world is getting back to normal (whatever that means). And, we again are able to do the things we did prior to the pandemic, like getting together in a social situation and help make a difference in the lives of some very deserving pups.
On November 7th, 2021, American Greyhound be holding our 10th Winning Hearts Benefit Auction.
Now, there will be some changes from past years. If you take a look at your calendar, you’ll see that November 7th falls on a Sunday. It’s not a misprint; we’re holding the event on a Sunday (with things shut down for over a year, all those brides who had planned their weddings had snapped up all the available Saturday dates through 2021 and into 2022). And, that’s OK. We’ll be starting the event at 4:00 PM, an hour earlier than in previous years. And, with the auction team we’ve used the past couple events, there’s no reason an attendee couldn’t enjoy the event, win an item or two, get through check-out and be on the road by 8:30 PM, if they wanted to (of course, as always, the venue will remain open for a couple hours or so after the event to allow for additional socializing).
We’ll have ticket sales going up on our website soon (and as always, there will not be an actual ticket) and we are beginning to get the planning going. But, we’ve got a lot of work to do before that Sunday afternoon, and we’d like to ask for your help in several areas.
First, we need to put together an auction committee. Their tasks will include setting things up the morning of the auction, putting together auction packets a couple days prior, helping to coordinate acquisition of items, and we usually put together a committee item for auction during the live portion of the auction.
Next, we need to help with acquisitions. Our auctions have been some of the better events put on by similarly sized organizations. And the reason is the numbers of unique items our people have acquired. You don’t need to be part of the auction committee to take part in acquisitions (though all are welcome to become a part of it). And, the more unique the items, generally the better. Do you have some sort of vacation home you’d be willing to donate for a week or weekend? Do you provide some sort of service or experience? Art? Memorabilia? Handmade item? Pet related items (and items certainly need not be pet related as typically, less than 50% of our attendees are greyhound owners)? The list is just about limitless. If you have questions regarding whether an item would be appropriate or usable in the auction, please don’t hesitate to ask. We’ll have a solicitation letter available for you to use within the week and will get it out to anyone would like to partake in solicitations.
Equally important as soliciting auction items is soliciting attendees. As I mentioned in the previous paragraph, over 50% of our attendees are not “greyhound people”. That because we get folks who get their friends and family, co-workers, neighbors and just about anyone else to attend. The more people we have in the building, the more successful we are. And, the more successful we are, the more hounds we can help. It’s as simple as that.
We are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Sunday November 7th and likewise hoping to see as many of you as possible taking part in the auction committee, item solicitation and attendee solicitation.
As before, the event will be held at the Avalon Manor, 3550 E. US 30, Merrillville, IN 46410. Silent auction will begin at 4:00 PM, with dinner and live auction beginning at 6:00 PM.
This event is always a fun and exciting evening of helping find homes for unwanted greyhounds (and as we’ve explained before, greyhound, to American Greyhound, effectively means just about any and all sight-hound breeds).
The auction committee needs your help. To be a part of the committee or if you have items to donate please contact: email@example.com
