A MESSAGE FROM OUR BOARD
WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!

I have a group of meeting planner friends who always plan to get together at the beach at least one day over the summer. In 2020 and 2021 we had many opportunities to do just that and not much else. This year we started checking dates in June and our 2022 beach day will be… Labor Day! Everyone was busy in a way we haven’t been for a long time. It’s hard to miss out on the fun, but it’s been gratifying to see live meetings come back and to see my friends and I flying off to far flung destinations busily doing what we love! Our group chats are full of… “safe travels” “have a great meeting” and “hope to see you soon!”

Throughout our industry I see so many positives (no Covid pun intended) with more and more meetings on the calendar, hotels filling up and job listings galore indicating that meetings are back! There are still issues with flights, virus flare-ups and staffing shortages, but it feels like we are on the right track. We are no longer consumed with “surviving the pandemic” or “pivoting” to a new role. Instead, we are sharing ideas on best meeting practices, hotel and venue recommendations and meeting delivery enhancements. The conversations are decidedly positive and forward-looking.

In that vein, as the VP of Marketing/Communications for the MPI New Jersey Chapter in the post-pandemic era I want to put the focus on you, our members. This is your chance to to share your ideas, experiences, and expertise with our membership. We are always looking for blog contributors, newsletter writers, speakers at events and social media posters to tell what’s going on with you and your meetings, venues, industry service offerings, etc. Let us hear your voices and your opinions - be a part of the conversation on the bright looking future of our industry. Impart your wisdom on us and we will promote you and your brand to our members and beyond. It’s a great time to get your name and your unique voice out there in the world of meetings and we want to help you do that.

In addition to sharing your thoughts with us please follow us on social media; we are always posting on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn, hopefully sharing the content that is important to you and your career. Let us know if we are hitting the mark and leave a comment with your thoughts and ideas. We will be reaching out through our channels to ask for your tips and tricks, favorite parts of the job, onsite photos, travel stories and even your pet peeves. I have plenty of pet peeves and want to hear yours as well.

To submit your name for consideration as a speaker at one of our programs (including the March 2023 MEETS Conference) please click HERE.

OCTOBER EDUCATION PROGRAM:
FROM ALKALINE TO THE PLAN Z DIET: UNDERSTANDING YOUR ATTENDEES' DIETARY SURVEY RESPONSES

Speaker: Sharon DeFelices, CMP

Current dietary surveys go beyond traditional food allergies and now include many personal and cultural eating plans. Healthier lifestyle choices and cultural eating are increasing in popularity and we are seeing more of these requests listed on our event dietary surveys. Collecting and understanding the information is key to attendee satisfaction at your events.

In this session, we will identify and define many of the common responses and discuss ways to talk to your venue and culinary partners to accommodate needs. Inclusive menu planning is easier than you think. Collaborating with the culinary team at your host venue is a win-win for your next event.

Learning objectives:
  • Attendees will gain an understanding of dietary trends, cultural eating parameters and food allergies.
  • Attendees will learn how to decipher survey responses and work with venues to satisfy event attendees’ needs.
  • Attendees will acquire tools for onsite F&B oversight to ensure that inclusive menu items are identified and accessible.

DATE: Thursday, October 20, 2022
TIME: 11:00am - 2:00pm

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT:
How did you get your start in the industry?
My start in the hospitality industry was many years ago as I worked at a retirement home during high school. It was there I learned I wanted to be in an industry that allowed you to connect with people

If you were not in this industry, what would you be doing right now?
Education has always been an interest an I think I'd be a teacher if I wasn't in hospitality.
