Best New Books for August
‘The Lost Tide Warriors’ by Catherine Doyle
Children’s Fiction

Catherine Doyle’s ‘The Storm Keeper’s Island’ was one of our favourite reads last year. So we hope you find the sequel, ‘The Lost Tide Warriors’, to be even better!

Tense, thrilling and beautifully written, these two adventure books are among the best of recent times.

Reserve this legendary adventure story for the Summer Reading Challenge today.
Suitable for ages 9-12.

‘The Carer’ by Deborah Moggach
Adult Fiction
From the author of ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ comes ‘The Carer’, Deborah Moggach’s brand new heart-warming book.

Poignant and wickedly funny, it’s a novel about the overwhelming onrush of old age. With a light touch and wry humour, ‘The Carer’ is about family, frailty and how the people we think we know the best can still always surprise us.

Paula King from Windsor, Ascot and Maidenhead Dementia Action Alliance will be at Dedworth and Eton libraries to help people understand more about dementia and how to help support those living with it.

Booker Prize 2019 Longlist announced
The Longlist for the prestigious Booker Prize 2019 was announced at the end of July and it’s full of established writers, including previous winners Salman Rushdie and Margaret Atwood.

Atwood’s novel 'The Testaments' which is a sequel to the ‘Handmaid’s Tale’, has not yet been released. It looks like it is going to be one of the year’s must read books – although details about this are currently few and far between due to a ‘ferocious nondisclosure agreement!’

Make reservations from the Booker Prize Longlist titles here .

The Shortlist will be announced at the start of September and the winner named on Monday 14 October 2019.

Marvel of the Month
On Monday 26 August we celebrate 200 years since the birth of Prince Albert.

He was a caring and affectionate father, often playing with his children. This Baxter print shows Queen Victoria and Prince Albert on a balcony at the corner of the south and east terraces of Windsor Castle.

The children playing below were probably Victoria, the Princess Royal, Albert (Bertie, later Edward VII), Alice, Alfred, Helena and Louise.

Come visit Windsor & Royal Borough Museum and see our exhibition Victoria and Albert in Windsor.
