Dear Christ Lutheran Family,

As you're probably aware of by now, we've been working and developing a Vision for Christ Lutheran that will help guide us as we grow into the future.  Much time and effort has been given for this purpose by the leadership of the three expressions of our community, which include the Congregation, Day School, and Foundation.  Our progress has resulted in a Vision Statement and explicatory document, which hopefully you've had a chance to read. We're now moving into the next phase of this process which, requires your help and participation.
By now, you should have received a survey, either electronically, or in the mail for those who do not access the internet.  This is to be completed by you or per household.  We believe your input will not only help us gain a clearer view of where we are currently, but it will reveal to us where we can rely on our strengths, as well as shore up our growing edges for the future of Christ Lutheran.
Please complete the survey to the best of your ability, answering all questions thoughtfully and honestly.  If the question doesn't apply to you, please choose 'N/A' (not applicable).  Please be assured that this is an internal survey and all information is for compilation only and specific information will not be shared with              anyone outside of some Christ Lutheran staff and leadership.
Finally, please complete this survey by Monday, August 15, 2016, so we can continue to Enrich, Grow and Enhance the Christ Lutheran Experience for one purpose;  Love God. Love People. Serve the World.
See you along the way.

God's Work. Our Hands.

Christ is still raising up the ministries of World Hunger and the Water Well program. Please consider supporting one or both of the efforts. We are helping our Synod raise $500,000 for this year's world hunger project and we are well on our way to collecting enough to dig Well No. 8 in Africa.
Lutheran World Relief is again asking us to gather school supplies....this year the need is even greater as children are displaced from their schools because of war in Syria and South Sudan. School supplies are on sale right now at WalMart and Target and the total cost of one set of supplies is less than $10. Lists of the supplies needed is on the Heartline desk and a basket is in the Narthex for you to drop off your gifts.
A reminder to those who knit, crochet or sew that we are still collecting caps for cancer victims who lose their hair because of treatment. Patterns are available on the Heartline. We'll gather these after the end of the year for our  annual Blessing of the Caps. The caps are donated to the American Cancer Society unit in Bryan.
During August we are collecting school supplies for Lutheran World Relief. A list of the supplies needed is available at the Heartline and supplies are now on sale at area stores-you buy the supplies and we'll furnish the backpack. Supplies are approximately $10 to fill two backpacks.

Canned and non perishable food donations in August will be donated to Bread Partners of Washington County. Please help by bringing your donated food items to the food table located in the narthex.

day schoo letterhead
It's hot outside, but the staff and   children at the Day School know how to beat the dog days of summer! They have enjoyed our Wacky Wednesday themed water play days including  Noah's Ark, camping, picnic and an all- out art extravaganza that we call Playground Picasso!  We weave bible stories and water play into activities throughout the playground, garden and outdoor classroom - a welcomed     distraction from the heat!

On July 1 st , we held our annual Patriotic Parade.  If you were there, "thanks" for coming, if not go ahead and save the date for next year.  This is an event NOT to be missed!  The Scouts were there to raise the flag and lead us in the pledge.  We had a clown this year and the usual array of farm animals, some even wearing red, white and blue stars!  Even our infants in strollers and toddlers in a wagon got in on the action!

VBS at Christ Lutheran is always a hit with our children and families.  Our three year olds and Pre-K participate with our staff becoming VBS staff for the week.  "Thank you" to everyone who goes out of their way to make this a fun and meaningful time for children to learn about God.  Cave Quest was a huge a huge success!
In Christ,
Ginny Gaskamp

Mission Trip

REFLECTIONS from our youth about their Mission Trip:

Jacob Elledge ...working on the Native American church and hearing the history of the Navajo people..native American food is the best.
Emily Fairman ...finding love in places that are unseen, like in the warm hearts of the people around me who willingly took the time out of their busy lives to serve and bond with people far less   fortunate than me.

Sarah Fairman ...I knew God had sent these people in our lives to build relationships and create bonds .....they will be in our hearts forever.  Seeing smiles and laughter in the kids brought love to my heart.

Sam Gaskamp... painting and building fences was worth all the work and to see how happy the Navajo  experience was faith is stronger.

Trey McNeil... making a difference... Hold Us Together in song...we love God by loving others...learning the history of the Navajo people and the struggles they faced.

Gracie Schwartz ...Telling the kids about God...spreading the Good News...learning about the Navajo people and the lesson of forgiveness.

Laramie Zelenka ...We love because he first loved us...seeing everyone work together as one to serve God and praise Jesus!  Trust God because he knows the plan he has for me.
