The Re-Launch of Míocar!
Míocar is officially back in business! Due to the pandemic, Míocar had to halt operations to ensure the health and safety of users. We have prepared a COVID-19 safety protocol so that you can now safely access the service (or the vehicles).
 
"Despite these challenging times, we know families are still in need of affordable and flexible transportation options," said Abigail Solis, Manager of Sustainable Energy Solutions at SHE. "We are happy that Miocar can continue help many of our families."
 
"We have placed CDC recommended cleaning supplies in each vehicle for you to use at the beginning and end of your trip," said Gloria Huerta, Míocar General Manager. "We strongly urge that you wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while using a Míocar and encourage you to bring your own cleaning supplies in case our supplies run out so that you can do a light cleaning of the vehicle at the start and end of your trip."
 
Míocar is a 100% electric vehicle carsharing service providing rural San Joaquin Valley residents affordable access to vehicles that can be rented on an hourly or daily basis online or via a smartphone mobile app.

The Passing of a Beloved Longtime Friend & Former Board Member: Graciela Martinez
While we were saddened by the passing of our friend and mentor Graciela Martinez several weeks ago, we are thankful for having been inspired by her tireless work on behalf of farmworkers and other low-income people of the San Joaquin Valley. Graciela was fearless and unsparing in her assessment of right and wrong. She was literally in the “room where it happened” when Self-Help Enterprises was born, typing up sections of our incorporation documents on a manual typewriter. Later she became a valued and trusted leader on our Board of Directors, reminding us always of the importance of our commitment to our mission and values. Graciela is widely recognized for her leadership in the Goshen community. Stay tuned for our modest effort to pay tribute to her memory in the coming months. SHE Awarded Susan Bartlett Award from Girl Scouts
Every year Girl Scouts of Central California South chooses a business that embodies the Girl Scouts' motto (building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place). SHE's Resident Services Team has worked with Girl Scouts to provide them a meeting space at one of our housing communities where they have held activities enabling their continued efforts to introduce girls to STEM, entrepreneurship, outdoors and essential life skills.  

The Susan Bartlett Award is given to a person or company who works to ensure that girls in Girl Scouts of Central California South have their own voice. It is named after Susie Bartlett, who has worked diligently to ensure that all girls have the opportunity to be Girl Scouts. 

"We believe that our partnership with the Girl Scouts has been one of outstanding support for our community," said Roberto Garcia, Resident Services Coordinator for Self-Help Enterprises. "We look forward to many more years of collaboration for the benefit of our future leaders."

Wednesday, September 2 marks the first of SHE’s weekly informative Facebook Lives that will take place every Wednesday for the month of September in honor of National Preparedness Month. This virtual series will feature expert panelists that will speak on SHE’s Emergency Preparedness efforts in Tulare County in collaboration with LISTOS California – a campaign anchored in the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES), focused on sharing life-saving messaging tied to the COVID-19 pandemic, promoting safer behavior and improving public health across California’s most vulnerable communities.

Virtual series will take place directly on Facebook and must follow @selfhelpenterprises to tune in. 
The Friends of Tulare County invites youth in grades 7–12 in Tulare County to participate in the Listos CV19 Youth Media Challenge during the month of September. In collaboration with Self-Help Enterprises and the California Office of Emergency Services, the purpose of the competition is to highlight youth-created art focused on promoting COVID-19 safety guidelines in languages representing Tulare County, utilizing two categories: graphic design and video.

Virtual Summit: Ensuring Equitable Involvement in Regional Water Planning
Register for the upcoming virtual Summit, “Ensuring Equitable Involvement in Regional Water Planning”! The Virtual Summit will take place on October 8th, 13th, and 14th from 8:30-1:00pm. Community leaders, water experts, tribal representatives, and government staff will gather to share strategies for engaging marginalized communities in regional water planning as learned through local implementation of the Integrated Regional Water Management (IRWM) Disadvantaged Communities and Tribal Involvement (DACTI) Program. Each day will address a new topic and include expert panels and interactive small group discussions to help participants coordinate and collaborate in real-time.
