As many of you know, we have been working on the Redevelopment of the Glenora Community League building and facilities for the last three years. The Committee has been working with the City of Edmonton in order to get approvals, plans, and grants in place to help complete this project. There are many steps and there have been many people working behind the scenes to make this happen.
At the same time as the Committee has been moving forwards with the Redevelopment, the Board has been trying to balance how much of the upkeep needs to be done with the eventual plans of the Redevelopment. It does not make sense to spend large amounts of the GCL's funds on facilities that will be replace shortly. This has been a tricky tightrope for the Board to walk, as we want to provide the best facilities for our members, without spending imprudently. Painting pickleball lines on the basketball courts, replacing broken glass blocks, repairing the eavestroughs, and other smaller items are all things that were planned for this summer.
We have had issues with our gymnasium floor for years and the heaving has only gotten worse. Through the Redevelopment process we have hired a geotechnical firm and have discovered that we have some serious water drainage issues stemming from the fields surrounding our building. This water seepage has entered our ducts and has been become a major problem that needs to rectified before we can move forward with major renovations, and may also stall the re-opening of our building. We hope to have more information on this soon and plan to address these issues as soon as possible.
We have also hired a landscape architect in order to begin putting together our plan for the two phases of the Redevelopment. The first phase will be the outdoor facilities, the second phase will be the building itself.
