PCCI targets schools that best fit your student’s abilities, interests, finances, and family circumstances so that students maximize their chances of receiving need and/or merit based aid.
With student athletes, we help in determining whether your student athlete would do better at a NCAA Division I, Division II, or Division III institution. It is especially important that student athletes start the search process early in order to maximize recruiting opportunities.
There is a huge difference in being a collegiate athlete in these divisions. In a D1 program, you are an athlete first for that school, then a student. It's very different from being a student-athlete at a D3 program where the emphasis is first on being a student then athlete.
When it comes to athletic scholarships, there are some considerations. If your student receives a "full ride", it's important to determine how much of the scholarship is athletic and how much of it (if any of it) is merit. What if your student dislikes the sport and no longer wants to play it after being awarded an athletic scholarship? It's important to determine what portion of that scholarship is for sports... 15 percent? 75 percent? And, will you be able to pay for the school if you don't have that athletic scholarship?
Bear in mind, only D1 and some D2 schools award athletic scholarships. However, standing out as an athlete at a D2 or D3 school can still bump you into consideration for other opportunities in the merit aid field. It can also be the difference between getting into a particular school or not regardless of whether or not you get aid.
