Athletic Scholarship Considerations
high-angle_basketball.jpg
PCCI targets schools that best fit your student’s abilities, interests, finances, and family circumstances so that students maximize their chances of receiving need and/or merit based aid.

With student athletes, we help in determining whether your student athlete would do better at a NCAA Division I, Division II, or Division III institution. It is especially important that student athletes start the search process early in order to maximize recruiting opportunities.

There is a huge difference in being a collegiate athlete in these divisions. In a D1 program, you are an athlete first for that school, then a student. It's very different from being a student-athlete at a D3 program where the emphasis is first on being a student then athlete.

When it comes to athletic scholarships, there are some considerations. If your student receives a "full ride", it's important to determine how much of the scholarship is athletic and how much of it (if any of it) is merit. What if your student dislikes the sport and no longer wants to play it after being awarded an athletic scholarship? It's important to determine what portion of that scholarship is for sports... 15 percent? 75 percent? And, will you be able to pay for the school if you don't have that athletic scholarship?

Bear in mind, only D1 and some D2 schools award athletic scholarships. However, standing out as an athlete at a D2 or D3 school can still bump you into consideration for other opportunities in the merit aid field. It can also be the difference between getting into a particular school or not regardless of whether or not you get aid.

High School Guidance Counselors
teacher-student-convo.jpg
Did you know?
According to American School Counselor Association, the recommendation is 250 students per Guidance Counselor.

With the 250-1 ratio, Guidance Counselors can't possibly give every student a lot of attention. Never mind put together a well thought out individualized strategic college search plan.
Parents (incorrectly) assume a Guidance Counselor is filling the role of College Advisor. However, this is not their job. A Guidance Counselor typically helps with course selection during high school as well as attendance and other issues. Their main job is to make sure each student graduates with enough credits to graduate in four years.

When it comes to actual college planning, Guidance Counselors will often merely direct students to do-it-yourself sites like Naviance to research colleges on their own. High school Guidance Counselors are dedicated professionals that work during school hours throughout the academic year. In contrast, PCCI works all year long with our students around their busy schedules, typically meeting once a month, in person or virtually. Summers are especially busy as that’s when we start working on college essays, prepare our application strategy with target deadlines and get other college admissions-related tasks done. Click here to learn more about our services.
Testimonials / Reviews
"Highly recommend PCCI! We hired PCCI during my daughter’s sophomore year of HS. To me the college process seemed very overwhelming, and I didn’t know where to start. Over the past 3 years, Nod has worked with our daughter to narrow down her choices, schedule tours, reach out to admissions and coaches, schedule interviews, review essays and applications and then guided her on when to apply. I didn’t realize how important the timing of all of these steps were. I cannot say enough great things on how amazing Nod and PCCI’s services have been to our family. My daughter was accepted to all the schools she applied and she was recruited and signed at her top choice. Thank you Nod for all you have done to help Samantha with this process."
