Celebrating the Olympics

The Olympic Games are a time when the world comes together to celebrate the pinnacle of human athletic achievement, where athletes from every corner of the globe compete for the highest honors in their sports. But beyond the competition, the Olympics offer so much more: inspiring stories of perseverance, the thrill of seeing records shattered, and the unity that sports can bring in a divided world. Curious about what captivates people the most about this global event, we turned to our staff and asked them to share their favorite aspects of the Olympics. From the dazzling opening ceremonies to the heartfelt stories of athletes overcoming incredible odds, our team’s responses reflect the diverse ways in which the Olympics inspire and excite us all.

I have never enjoyed spectator sports, with the sole exception of watching my kids and grandsons. My favorite sport now is watching racetracks—from inside the driver's windshield! While I may not be a typical sports fan, I recognize the immense value that sports can offer participants.

Engaging in sports fosters discipline, dedication, and resilience—qualities that are invaluable in any field. The journey of an athlete, especially an Olympian, is a testament to what can be achieved through years of relentless effort and a drive for excellence. Olympians are the pinnacle of athletic achievement, representing the very best in their respective sports. They inspire us all, not just by their physical feats but by the mental and emotional strength they demonstrate on the world stage.

Just as in racing, where every second counts and every decision can change the outcome, the preparation and commitment seen in the Olympics remind us that success is often the result of countless hours of unseen work. This same dedication is something we strive to bring to our clients, helping them navigate their own challenges and reach their goals, whether it's increasing the profits of their business, reducing their tax burden, or helping them during tax season, planning for the future, or reach their financial goals. Like Olympians, we understand the value of preparation and the satisfaction of a job well done!

"I really appreciate the Olympics for the sheer dedication and hard work the athletes put into their sports. Although I don't watch it regularly, I can relate to the commitment required, as my son Logan plays college baseball. Seeing the athlete's passion and perseverance is inspiring." - Christi Geggus

"Although I don't watch the Olympics, I appreciate how it brings people from all over the world together. The event highlights incredible human achievements and creates a sense of global unity. Even without watching, I admire the stories of perseverance and the excitement that surrounds the breaking of world records." - Lesli Gvillo

"What captivates me most about watching the Olympics is the awe-inspiring display of human potential. There’s something truly magical about seeing new records being shattered, as athletes push the boundaries of what we believe is possible. Each event is a testament to years of dedication, resilience, and an unyielding pursuit of excellence.

I’m moved when I see athletes, after giving their all, racing to the stands to embrace their families. It’s a beautiful moment that highlights the unwavering support and love that fuels their journey. For me, the Olympics are not just about winning; they are about the stories of perseverance, the triumphs over adversity, and the immense pride that comes with representing your country on the world’s biggest stage. It’s an honor that few get to experience, and watching it unfold is nothing short of inspirational.

-Kristine Overacker

"My favorite part of the Olympics isn't just about the incredible athletic performances or the gold medals. What truly inspires me are the stories behind the athletes—the obstacles they've overcome to reach the pinnacle of their sport. Take Simone Biles, for example. Her journey highlights the importance of mental health, showing us that strength isn't just physical but also about having the courage to prioritize one's well-being. These stories remind us that the Olympics are not just about winning; they're about resilience, determination, and the human spirit's ability to triumph against all odds." - Jessica Kapp

The Exclusion from Income of Olympic Prize Money; A Win for Athletes

When watching the Paris Olympics this summer, think of the athletes pushing the boundaries of human potential. These athletes dedicate years, often decades, to perfecting their craft, all for the chance to stand on the podium and receive a medal. However, behind the scenes, there's a less glamorous aspect that many might not consider: the taxation of their prize money. Fortunately, legislative changes made in 2016 have provided some relief for these dedicated individuals.
