Dear Faculty,
We hope you have been having a wonderful summer! It's hard to believe that August starts in two days. The OTL is excited to work with you to get your upcoming courses ready as we approach the fall term!

We are gradually starting to return to campus with some hybrid and in-person August sessions. Individual meetings are still by appointment only, and please verify the modality of your meeting or session beforehand. Please always feel free to contact the OTL at [email protected] with any questions.

Though we are excited for what August will bring, we are sad to say goodbye to Dr. Christina Paguyo, our Director of Academic Assessment for the past five years. She is joining the College of Arts and Media at the University of Colorado, Denver as Assistant Dean of Student Success and Creative Sciences.

If you haven't yet shared a message in the “Words of Thanks” book that we are preparing for her, please write a message of gratitude here.

Submit your message by 8pm on SUNDAY, AUGUST 1st to give us enough time to compile this gift for Christina.
Upcoming Short Course and Institute with the OTL!

Monday, August 16 - Friday, August 27

The Teaching with Canvas Short Course is a new first-time offering at the Office of Teaching and Learning that contains readings, assignments, and multimedia to help participants learn how to design and facilitate courses using Canvas effectively. The course takes place on Canvas, DU’s primary learning management system (LMS), so that participants can experience the structure of a course as a student.

All classes, even if there is a face-to-face component, will require a robust online presence, and the resources and tools in this course will help with the creation of those components. This course requires a base-line knowledge of Canvas and will offer advanced skills and strategies for faculty interested in taking their teaching to the next level. Please contact Lexi Schlosser, OTL Faculty Developer of Online Learning, with any questions.

Thursday, August 19 and Friday, August 20
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, August 11

This past year, we all worked hard to “make it work” when we pivoted to teaching in the online and hyflex environments. For many of us, that work involved the creation of some great online materials, activities, and approaches that we would hate to throw out. The good news is that many of these can still be incorporated into our face-to-face courses!

Join us for this two-day institute in which you’ll reflect on what you would like to carry forward from your experience of teaching online, learn about ways in which you might incorporate this into your face-to-face teaching, and create a plan for how you can use what you learned – and what you made, including all of those videos! – to create learning experiences for your students that bring together the best of the face-to-face and online modalities. Please contact Dr. Virginia Pitts, Director of University Teaching, with any questions.

Both of these offer stipends upon completion!

Duo Multi-Factor Authentication

Starting August 20, 2021, the University of Denver will require all employees (faculty, adjunct faculty, and staff) to use Duo multi-factor authentication (MFA) with Office 365 applications.

What is Duo Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?

Duo helps students, faculty, and staff protect themselves and the University against cybercrime. Duo Multi-Factor Authentication enhances security by adding a second layer of authentication to your login. Duo is stronger than a password alone because there are two factors confirming who you are: something you have (such as your phone or device) and something you know (your password).

Users who wish to complete the Duo enrollment in advance of the planned mandatory change can open a ServiceNow Request.

For more information and troubleshooting tips, including how to configure Duo for automatic push notifications, please visit the DU IT website.
