AU Outreach Global Office (OGO) and Department of Management
offered Success Through Entrepreneurship Program (STEP)
to Benin Business Owners and Aspiring Entrepreneurs
Auburn University’s Outreach Global Office (OGO) and (AU) Harbert College of Business (HCOB) in collaboration with the Institute of Cultural Affairs Benin (ICA Benin) offered a Success Through Entrepreneurship Program (STEP) to the people of Benin. STEP targeted youth, female microentrepreneurs, and STEM students in Benin. The premier training program took place on June 9 – 17, 2022 at the Université d'Abomey-CalaviEntrepreneurship Center, at Cotonou, Benin.
Dr. LaKami Bakar, Associate Professor at the AU Department of Management and Dr. Elizabeth I. Quansah, Director of OGO trained over 120 participants during the pilot training program.
The STEP program focused on entrepreneurial training program based on the lean startup methodology to help Benin youths, women and students learn the entrepreneurial skills needed to design effective value propositions, scalable business models, and basic business skills in finance, marketing, communication, public speaking, and management. Participants engaged in problem solving, idea generation and public speaking activities. The instructors also provided training to community leaders and shared best practices from the U.S. to aid in the sustainability of their respective community service programs.
