Accounting and Tax Training Institute announces locations for 2022 tax seminars

The Auburn University Accounting and Tax Training Institute, a program area of the Office of Professional and Continuing Education, will offer the nationally accredited Two-day Live Tax Seminar in 13 cities across four southeastern states including Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas and Mississippi this fall. Each year the in-person seminars provide robust training to participants with topics ranging from legislative updates to ethics. Training is provided by top-notch instructors including nationally recognized speakers, expert tax professionals and federal and state tax specialists.

Since 1973, Auburn University has provided quality continuing education for enrolled agents, certified public accountants, public accountants, certified financial planners, tax practitioners, and attorneys. The Auburn University Accounting and Tax Training Institute is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors and an IRS Provider of CE for all tax professionals.

Benin participants receive certificates after entrepreneurial skills training for youth, women and students.

offered Success Through Entrepreneurship Program (STEP)

to Benin Business Owners and Aspiring Entrepreneurs

Auburn University’s Outreach Global Office (OGO) and (AU) Harbert College of Business (HCOB) in collaboration with the Institute of Cultural Affairs Benin (ICA Benin) offered a Success Through Entrepreneurship Program (STEP) to the people of Benin. STEP targeted youth, female microentrepreneurs, and STEM students in Benin. The premier training program took place on June 9 – 17, 2022 at the Université d'Abomey-CalaviEntrepreneurship Center, at Cotonou, Benin.

Dr. LaKami Bakar, Associate Professor at the AU Department of Management and Dr. Elizabeth I. Quansah, Director of OGO trained over 120 participants during the pilot training program.

The STEP program focused on entrepreneurial training program based on the lean startup methodology to help Benin youths, women and students learn the entrepreneurial skills needed to design effective value propositions, scalable business models, and basic business skills in finance, marketing, communication, public speaking, and management. Participants engaged in problem solving, idea generation and public speaking activities. The instructors also provided training to community leaders and shared best practices from the U.S. to aid in the sustainability of their respective community service programs.

The pilot training program was sponsored by the AU Outreach Global Office (OGO) and Department of Management.

GEDI’S DAVIS COOPER RETIRES

The Government and Economic Development Institute (GEDI) is wishing a fond farewell to a long-time staff member. Davis Cooper, a human resources consultant, retires effective August 1 after serving in University Outreach for the past 11 years. “Davis has been a valued member of the GEDI family. His contributions through his work advising local, county and state governments on human resource issues is to be commended. The impact of Davis’ work is seen across the great State of Alabama,” said Jeremy Arthur, GEDI Director.

Davis began working in Outreach in 2011, originally with the Center for Governmental Services. His work provided human resources consulting services, technical assistance, and training to municipal and county governments, and other public and non-profit organizations throughout the state of Alabama. STEFANI DELANEY JOINS GEDI

Stefanie Delaney recently joined the staff of the Government & Economic Development Institute (GEDI), serving as the training department registrar for professional development and certification programs. In this role she assists course participants with registration, billing, and transcripts. Stefanie moved to the area in the summer of 2021 with her husband and two children from the Philadelphia region, where she worked as the Operations Manager at the Haverford College Bookstore. She worked as an administrative associate with the Finger Lakes Land Trust in Ithaca, NY. Since relocating, the Delaney family has embraced the beauty of the Auburn community and its sports culture. Stefanie earned her Associates Degree in Applied Science in Illustration and will be pursuing a degree in Public Administration at Auburn.

Intensive Economic Development Training Course fueled by Spire. July 11-15, 2022, Auburn, AL - Week 1

GEDI HOSTS 39^th ANNUAL INTENSIVE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TRAINING PROGRAM

The Government & Economic Development Institute (GEDI) recently hosted week one of its 39th Intensive Economic Development Training Course July 11-15 in Auburn. “Week one of our Intensive Economic Development Training Course brought together over 60 economic development professionals from across the great state of Alabama for a series of discussions impacting the economic development industry, both in Alabama and across the country. These economic development professionals are truly leading the way in their local communities and regional areas by equipping themselves with the knowledge and understanding of latest trends to make an impact,” explained GEDI Director Jeremy Arthur.

Completion of this program underscores each participant’s commitment to economic and community development. The program is divided into two, one-week sessions and introduces participants to all phases of economic development. The first week is accredited by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) and fulfills one of the prerequisites for those who wish to take the exam for the Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation. It provides an intensive overview of general economic development concepts and principles. The second week, which is scheduled for September 12-15 of this year, will focus on critical issues and resources in Alabama.
