Let's Get Lost Together in North Park

Last month, lifelong North Park go-er Jessika Coltz shared what this iconic place means to her on our blog. Her story is a love letter to the trails, memories and the magic of getting “lost” in the best way.

"I’ve heard the same hesitation from so many folks who walk or run on the Pie Traynor loop or the much-loved, sometimes-dreaded lake loop; they are afraid to get lost or see something scary in the woods. My response? Let’s get lost together. It’s the best kind of lost – where you don’t just find cool stuff in the woods, but you find some cool stuff in yourself."

We’re proud to share our updated 2025 organization infographic, highlighting the ways your support has helped us improve, conserve and restore your nine Allegheny County Parks. Project Updates

Edgebrook Shelter Restoration Begins Soon!

Thanks to the help of Mascaro Construction Company, work on the historic Edgebrook Shelter in South Park is set to begin in late summer or early fall. Built under the direction of Paul Riis in the early days of the Allegheny County Parks, this unique oven shelter will be restored for safe public use and to honor its historic design.

The First Summer of Deer Lakes Barn Solar Meadow

Last year, we planted the Deer Lakes Barn Solar Meadow and this summer we're getting our first glimpse of how it is coming to life!

First-year native meadows don't always look like picture-perfect fields of flowers. Most of the energy is going into building strong root systems underground. But, if you look closely, there are signs of success above the ground. Stay tuned for an upcoming blog post where we will dive into the indicator species that we are seeing at this meadow and the promising signs of the mature meadow it will become in a few years!

New Large-Print Accessibility Binder for the Sculpture Garden Audio Tour

We’re excited to share a new addition to our self-guided audio tour of the Carol R. Brown Sculpture Garden at Hartwood Acres! A large-print binder containing the full transcript and laminated map of the tour is now available for visitors who prefer or need accessible print materials. Simply stop by the Hartwood Acres Mansion during open hours to borrow the binder for your visit, then return it when you’re done.

The tour is free, available on any internet-connected device, and designed to deepen your experience of the artwork and artists. Whether you prefer to listen or read, we want everyone to feel welcome and informed in the Carol R. Brown Sculpture Garden. Plan your visit!

Ways to Support

Donate to our Tree Fund in Support of Healthy Streams!

Why are streams so important?

North Park’s streams, including Irwin and North Fork Pine Creeks, support diverse wildlife and help sustain clean water throughout the park. Our recent streams assessment of nearly 12 miles of streams in North Park highlighted the importance of maintaining healthy streambanks and tree cover to protect these natural systems.

Planting native trees along streams helps reduce erosion, provide shade for aquatic life and support clean water. Help improve our streams by donating to our Tree Program today and learn more about our streams assessments.
