EVENTS AND TENNIS NEWS for ROCKINGHAM COUNTY NC - AUGUST 2016

The summer is flying by!  Don't miss our last two Family Play Days on August 1 and 2 from 6:30-8pm on the courts in Madison and Reidsville.  

Our Fall Junior Team Tennis program is now open for registration for ages 6-18.  Register your young player to get more on-court match experience beginning with a FREE Kick-Off Play Day on Sunday September 11 at 3pm at the Jaycee Park courts in Reidsville. 

Save time to finish your summer tennis fun with a visit to the Winston-Salem Open August 20-27. This is the last professional men's event in The Emirates Airline US Open Series.  Take your young players to the free Kids Day or High School Play Day, or attend the Coach Youth Tennis workshop and receive free tickets to see some of the best men's tennis players from around the world just an hour away from Rockingham County. 
FAMILY PLAY DAYS in Madison and Reidsville

USTA Play Days are designed to get children and their families out on the courts playing fun games together.  We will provide a short skill session for new players, fun competitive games for our more skilled players and a treat and free family time on the court for all.  Equipment and FUN provided.  No experience necessary.

Monday, August 1 at Carlyle Lewis Courts, Cure Drive, Madison 6:30-8pm

Tuesday, August 2 at Jaycee Park courts, 125 Jaycee Park Road in Reidsville 6:30-8pm

FALL JUNIOR TEAM TENNIS KICK-OFF Sunday September 11
USTA Junior Team Tennis is the largest youth tennis league in America and allows kids to enjoy the sport for a lifetime from the very first day of play.

FALL  Junior Team Tennis in Rockingham County  begins Sunday September 11  with a Free Kick-Off Play day at 3pm followed by a 4-week match season that includes a  Level 6 round robin tournament and celebration . Matches may be on courts at Jaycee Park or Rockingham Community College in Reidsville.

Players must be members of USTA (Free for 10&Under players for the first year, or $20/year for ages 11-18) and pay a team fee of $45.  A limited number of scholarships for the team fee are available.

WINSTON SALEM OPEN EVENTS  August 20-17



WSO KIDS DAY for ages 6-12 - free lunch and WSO tickets Saturday, August 20

Brenner Children's Hospital will be kicking off the Winston-Salem Open with their sixth annual Brenner Kid's Day. On Saturday, August 20, kids will hit the court for lots of excitement at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Complex. 

The day begins at 9:30 a.m., offering age-appropriate activities for children ages 6-8 years old until 11 a.m. Kids ages 9-12 will follow from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Chick-fil-A of Thruway Shopping Center and Peace Haven road will serve lunch for all participants at the conclusion of the event.

USTA North Carolina will be organizing the day's activities. These will center around the fundamentals, skills and fun of tennis for all ability levels. 

Brenner Kid's Day is offered FREE to the public. Winston-Salem Open's mascot "Bo" will be make an appearance, along with other mascots.

We would like to ask our participants to bring school supplies as a donation for Educators Warehouse. The Educator Warehouse is a facility in Forsyth County where teachers can come and shop for free school supplies for their classrooms.  With your donation, you will receive an additional ticket into Saturday's matches following Kid's Day.

WSO HIGH SCHOOL PLAY DAY, Tuesday August 23
COACH YOUTH TENNIS WORKSHOP at the WSO, Monday August 22
NO COACHING EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED for this hour interactive 10 & Under Coaches workshop.  This is the perfect training for our RC Tennis volunteers and parents who want to learn more about helping young players "find themselves in the game".
 
This Workshop, led by Butch Staples, will cover a wide range of youth coaching topics.  The fee is $15.

Butch is a PTR Master Professional, a USPTA Professional 1 and a Tennis Canada certified coach. From 1982-1989, he was Chairman of Tennis Canada's Coach and Instructor Development Committee. He has been a USTA RCW and 10 and Under Trainer since the inception of these programs and he is currently a USTA Master Trainer.

All workshop attendees will receive a tournament ticket good for the August 22 day session.
