Let's Talk About Using Botanicals in Artist Books
and
Assemble Your Own Plant Press
with Oralee Nudson

This meeting is all about using botanicals - botanical specimens, botanical prints, and pressed botanicals - as the focus of our artist books. Bring your books that use botanicals in some way, large or small, to show and tell. We will all be surprised by the range of techniques and structures that can feature specimens from our natural world.

To facilitate your future botanical books Oralee Nudson will lead us in the assembly of a plant press which she has designed. Following a brief discussion introducing plant pressing techniques, you will gather leaves from outdoors and assemble your own 5" x 9.25" birch plywood plant press.

Then start gathering your own botanicals for observing, sketching, and perhaps using as specimens in your next artist book!

Birch plywood for the presses has been generously donated for this project. You are asked to contribute $5 to the cost of the hardware.

Bring the following tools to the meeting:
Cutting mat
Ruler
X-Acto knife
Hole punch (regular size)
$5 to cover the cost of hardware for your plant press

Book Exchange Theme for September Meeting:
Fabric
(as material, subject, structure - anything goes!)

Paper Birches will be open before and after the meeting-
take this opportunity to stock up on bookmaking supplies!

IMPORTANT!!

IN SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER

Due to poor attendance at recent Open Book sessions we will cancel those on the schedule for September 3 and October 1.
