Junior Golf

July was a busy month for Junior Golf at Mountain Glen. We held our annual Junior Golf Summer Camp at the beginning of the month, then hosted a local qualifier for the Drive, Chip and Putt Contest.

A special thanks to many of the property owners for volunteering.

And a VERY special shout out to Everly Brinkley! She and her family live in Mountain Glen, and she finished 3rd in the girls 11-12 division, which qualifies her to advance to the next round in August in hopes of making her way to Augusta for the finals next year.

Support "Girl Power" in Golf!

Avery High School Women's Golf Team with Robert Nowak (who in this photo is a) a hologram, b) shaking vigorously, or c) the victim of random camera effects)

Residents of Mountain Glen have a long history of supporting the surrounding community, including through some of the golf tournaments that are held here each season.

The Blue Ridge Women's Golf Invitational was established last year as a way to bring women together to support women's golf in the area, and also to support the Avery High School Women's Golf Team. There are a number of events throughout the season that support various Avery County men's high school sports teams but this is the only one specifically for ladies sports.

This year there are two ways to sponsor the tournament:

Similar to last year, one way is to sponsor a hole for $100. This is a lovely way to honor a friend or loved one, or to promote a business.

The second way, new this year, is to sponsor a player from the Avery High School Women's Golf Team. If you have had the experience of either playing golf with or near any of these young ladies, you can't help but be impressed by their athleticism and skill and this is a great way to boost their spirits and confidence! Costs for these sponsorships will be available soon.

For more information on sponsorships, contact Beth Hill at bethchill@gmail.com or 828-302-0440.

Labor Day Cookout

Thank you in advance to Jim & Sherry Dye who will be generously providing bratwurst and hot dogs, and Phil Lanford for cooking, at our last cookout of the season on Labor Day, Monday, September 2nd. Potluck salads, sides, and desserts. $5 per person. As usual, BYOB.

If you haven't signed up yet, visit the Mountain Glen Community website and SIGN UP NOW for this fun event and to let us know what you'll be bringing to the cookout.
