Eco-Friendly Tips of the Month
Chuck Golden

Each month, as part of this newsletter, I will continue to share with you my ideas and thoughts that may work for you as you strive to be more environmentally sustainable.

Marketing Sustainability Matters

We suggest that, if a Subaru retailer is taking environmentally sustainable actions in their operation (which they are), the retailer should want to market those efforts. In this article and others to follow we are exploring this timely subject.

A Subaru retailer taking environmental sustainability seriously shouldn't just keep that commitment behind the scenes. Here's why marketing those efforts is not only smart, but often essential:

Why It Matters to Market Sustainability

  • Builds Trust & Credibility: Highlighting eco-friendly practices—like energy-efficient facilities, geothermal systems, or recycling programs—shows transparency and earns community trust. Eco-Friendly Certification and measurable metrics only strengthen the story.
  • Differentiates the Retailer: In a crowded market, environmental action becomes a strong unique selling proposition (USP). This sets the retailer apart, especially for customers who value sustainability.
  • Aligns with Consumer Values: Buyers today—especially younger generations—are consciously choosing brands that reflect their ethics. Promoting green initiatives attracts eco-minded customers and makes them more likely to stay loyal.
  • Supports Measurable Community Impact: If the retailer is involved is involved in local projects (like tree planting, EV education events, or solar integration), marketing amplifies the benefit beyond just direct participants. It turns impact into influence.
  • Promotes Positive PR & Partnerships: Media, municipalities, and environmental organizations often look to feature or partner with businesses that are actively improving their footprint. Marketing makes sure those opportunities don’t pass unnoticed.
  • Drives ROI Through Innovation: If your geothermal investments or sustainability upgrades reduce operating costs, marketing shows you're not just being responsible—you’re being smart. That narrative helps justify future investments and attracts business-savvy customers.

We will be providing more on this and want to hear your thoughts for future communications. My guess is that you have additional ideas on how to market sustainability effectively. Please share your thoughts. E-mail me at chuck@greendealersupport.com or reply to this e-mail with your information. Be sure to include pictures whenever possible.

Subaru Concord -- Concord, NC

Tree Planting at

North Kannapolis Elementary School

Subaru Concord in Concord, NC, in association with the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers baseball team, really hit the ball out of the park for Earth Day 2025 by providing an opportunity for students at North Kannapolis Elementary School to learn first-hand about sustainability. The school expressed their appreciation with a post on their Facebook page:

"We’re so thankful to the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers, Subaru Concord, and RL Rosser General Contractors for visiting last Thursday and sharing their “𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐚 𝐁𝐚𝐭, 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐚 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐞” initiative with our students! With Earth Day tomorrow, their gift of over 275 tree seedlings (one for each student to take home), along with the installation of a Pollination Garden, is a powerful reminder that small actions can make a big difference for our planet. What a meaningful way to connect STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering Mathematics) and sustainability!"

Encouraging and assisting elementary school children to create a thriving pollinator garden fosters within them a deeper understanding of nature and its significance. The garden acts as a living classroom where students engage with the environment, learning about the critical roles that bees, butterflies, and other pollinators play in our ecosystem. By planting native flowers and plants, these young environmental stewards are not only enhancing local biodiversity but also cultivating a sense of responsibility towards the planet. The garden makes learning about ecology fun and impactful while also providing essential habitats for pollinator species and providing a unique opportunity for observation and interaction with the wonders of nature.

Lithia Reno Subaru -- Reno, NV

Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB)

Lithia Reno Subaru, in Reno, NV, has partnered with KTMB to preserve and protect the nearby Truckee Meadows region. Volunteers from Lithia joined forces with KTMB this past spring to clean up a nearby park. The effort was described on the retailer's Facebook page:

"At Lithia Reno Subaru we take pride in our community and a part of that involves getting our hands dirty when we’re called to! We partner with KTMB and on Saturday 10 of our sales and parts staff were at Lake Park in Reno brightening up the park! This effort consisted of planting about 30 new plants, clearing overgrown vegetation and moving hundreds of pounds of mulch!"

Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB) is dedicated to combating pollution and fostering sustainable practices within the region. By mobilizing community involvement through a range of activities such as clean-up events and educational outreach, KTMB empowers both residents and businesses in the area to take an active role in environmental stewardship. This collaborative approach not only mitigates litter and pollution but also instills a deeper appreciation for local resources and ecosystems.

Is there a nearby park or beach or body of water (stream, river, lake, ocean) that could benefit from your assistance at a cleanup effort?

Getting involved in local cleanup events is not just an act of service; it's a chance to create a cleaner, greener environment. By participating in these initiatives, you are contributing to the preservation of our natural habitats. Whether it's picking up litter, planting trees, or educating others about the importance of conservation, your efforts can make a lasting impression, especially on your eco-conscious customers.

Many organizations and local governments host regular cleanups, and they welcome volunteers. Simply reach out to your local parks department or environmental groups to find upcoming events -- or even consider organizing your own! You can also check social media platforms or community boards for announcements about upcoming cleanups. Every action counts, and every effort speaks volumes about your dedication to environmental sustainability.
