Subaru National Business Conference  September 21 - 24, 2021
We know about Subaru's waste reduction efforts at its plants and in national parks. Did you know it extends to events too? Only 109 pounds of trash were produced for the 2019 Subaru National Business Conference in Las Vegas. That's a 99.7 percent zero landfill score.

If you're heading to this year's conference in Anaheim, make sure your itinerary includes a stop at our booth. Megan Fleck and Chuck Golden will be there, and they're anxious to hear about some of your green best practices. Find us in the Eco-Friendly Area, Booth 14, within the Retail Environment Booth.
Earth Week Held Two Cleanup Events for Williams Subaru
Last year, Williams Subaru Charlotte introduced us to plogging, a cross between jogging and picking up trash. This year, the retailer’s cleanup efforts continued with two Earth Week trash pickup events.

First up, Williams Subaru joined Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, along with Keep Charlotte Beautiful, for a park cleanup day. Together as a team, five members from both the sales and service departments donned caution vests and used litter grabbers to pick up and dispose of trash collected throughout Charlotte's popular Cordelia Park.

“We found confetti left over from a party, candy wrappers, water bottles, and more,” said Kate Downing, Williams’ director of marketing.

“Park cleanups like this are incredibly important, especially in parks like Cordelia Park that are alongside a natural creek that feeds a larger waterway,” Downing explained. “Trash and litter can collect in the creek negatively impacting wildlife, water flow, and foliage.”

Later in the week, Williams joined Around the Crown 10K’s Plog and Jam, an event that kicked off with a trash pickup and ended with a concert. Williams Subaru supplied a TerraCycle zero-waste box to upcycle the trash found during the plogging.

“Several trash bags were filled, stuffed in the box, and shipped off to TerraCycle to be made into new things!” Downing said.

Dealership ENERGY STAR Certification Nears Completion
NADA is working in partnership with the EPA to help you gain additional recognition for your eco-friendly efforts. They are close to developing an ENERGY STAR certification for franchised dealerships and need your help to cross the finish line.

NADA is asking you to complete an OPTIONAL NADA Dealership Energy Use Survey. Data collected from the voluntary survey will be used to build the dealership ENERGY STAR certification program. The greater the number of surveys completed, and the more brands represented, the better the tool.

Learn more about the survey, or get a walkthrough of how to complete it in this demonstration webinar. If you need help with the survey, please reach out to energysurvey@nada.org. NADA's staff and its contractor, Altura, can work with you directly to complete a survey.

As previously noted, participation in the survey is completely VOLUNTARY and not required for Eco-Friendly Retailer status.
