Dear Stanwich Families,
We are pretty well set for the new school year and hope you all are getting there as well. Besides all the exterior preparations-new waterline, clearing for the new field and water treatment plant, and laying the West Wing foundation-our Lower School teachers have been busy moving classrooms. On the lower level of the Lower School building, Mrs. Emily Sullivan and Mrs. Jane Graham have set up their new art space. As Ms. Beth Kiefer consolidated the Lower School library in the Maker Space area, the Tech Team reorganized and consolidated the Maker Space in the Robotics Room.
The Lower School playground area has the huge new spiderweb and gaga pit adjacent to the playing field, and the littler ones will have a fun equipment-filled play area covered by an awning immediately outside their relocated classrooms.
For the coming year to complement those activities, we anticipate coordinated program opportunities with GCDS on Old Church Road.
IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO, PLEASE ATTEND TO THE BACK-TO-SCHOOL PAPERWORK THROUGH

, and call if you have any questions. We expect that updated Handbook will be posted on the website by Monday, August 20.
With the departure of Ms. Sukie McFadden and Mrs. Ellen Masterson and Mrs. Anne Romanello in the Business Office, Dr. Rob Macrae joins us in the Main Office as Associate Head coordinating external affairs-business, development, and operations. Dr. Macrae joins Stanwich from New Canaan Country School where he was school head. As announced previously, we are excited for Dr. Chris Winters, from Greenwich High School to join us October 1 to continue the program planning and marketing efforts for the GCDS Upper School.
For the coming year, Mr. Gary Dunn accepted an opportunity at The Harvey School where he will serve as Dean of Students. Mr. Chris Cardarelli will serve as Athletic Director and will be communicating soon concerning Junior and Senior House athletics.
Mrs. Jackie Wood will serve as both History Department Chair and Dean; and Mr. Morgan Murphy will coordinate Upper School social activities. College counselor Mr. Andy Ramirez will be in touch with Senior class parents soon, and Junior class parents next month.
Mrs. Traci Oh and Mrs. Ali Burnard communicated last month that they planned to move to teach in their local public schools. We were fortunate to hire as our new Kindergarten/Grade 1 teacher Ms. Brynn John, who graduated from University of Connecticut and earned an M.A.T in Education from Manhattanville and joins us from Eagle Hill School. Supporting PreK this year, Ms. Melissa Stoll earned her degree in Early Childhood education and expects to receive her MA in Literacy and Special Education from Manhattanville this December. Ms. Stoll comes to Stanwich from a similar role for the past two years at Rye Country Day School.
Ms. Annie Ambrogio will support Mr. Cardarelli in the Physical Education program and coach. With a degree in Physical Education from Southern Connecticut, Ms. Ambrogio currently teaches at Bi-Cultural Day School and the GCDS Summer program.
If you have driven by the campus on Stanwich and Cat Rock Roads recently you will have been amazed by the work underway. Currently the road to the Lower School drop-off area is closed to install the town water access. In addition to the clearing to the east of our buildings, the construction teams are preparing the foundation for the new West Wing to house the new Commons, science classrooms, and Maker Space that we hope to make use of in the late spring.
Enjoy the waning days of summer. We look forward to another exciting and successful year at Stanwich.
