News from Your Executive Director

Dear Friends of the Capital Trail,

We have some exciting updates to share! The Capital Trail is growing into Williamsburg, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. To make this happen, we’re adding a new team member, the Director of Trail Development - Capital Trail Extension, who will work with local partners, community advocates, and neighbors to help us move this next stretch of Trail forward.

We’re also looking for an Administrative Manager to support our growing team. If you or someone you know might be a good fit, check out both opportunities.

And now for the fun part, it’s time to celebrate! This fall marks 10 years of the Capital Trail, and we’re throwing not one but two birthday parties:

  • October 3 – Billsburg Brewery (Williamsburg)
  • October 4 – Triple Crossing Fulton (Richmond)
  • Both parties run from 5-8 PM and will be filled with friends, fun, and plenty of Trail love.

Ticket prices go up on August 21st, so grab yours today before they sell out! (8-pack bundles are available, too.) We can’t wait to raise a glass to 10 amazing years of the Capital Trail and to the exciting miles still to come!

With Gratitude,

Cat Anthony

Executive Director

10th Birthday Celebrations

This October, we're celebrating a huge milestone: the 10th Anniversary of the Virginia Capital Trail's completion! For an entire decade, the Capital Trail has been a vibrant hub for active living, community gathering, and accessible transportation for everyone. As we look forward to exciting new developments, like the recently announced trail extension, we're also taking time to reflect on how far we've come.

Join us this October for one of two birthday celebrations in Williamsburg (Oct 3rd) and Richmond (Oct 4th). Purchase tickets for yourself, friends, and loved ones starting at $65, or grab your crew and snag an 8-pack for $600, which includes program recognition AND raffle entry. Be sure to register before the price jump on August 21st; so buy now to save! Every ticket includes two complimentary drink tickets, a catered meal, and a commemorative 10th Anniversary pint glass.

Trail Improvements

The wooden bridge near the Kickstand at MM 51 is open with a new surface and railings, thanks to Richmond Parks, Recreation, & Community Facilities.

And that's not all... the section of Trail on Courthouse Rd just west of MM 22 has been resurfaced & restriped! A HUGE shoutout to our friends at VDOT for making this stretch easier to navigate!

For Sika Henry, a career-threatening crash could have ended her goal of being the first professional U.S. Black female triathlete. Instead, she refused to let the setback define her.

"Life is not linear. It will be filled with ups and downs. When the going gets tough, you have to dig deep and find your ‘why’ to get through those moments."

Final Push - Summer Challenge Wrap-Up

We're counting down to the finish line and our End-of-Summer Challenge Party at Indian Fields Tavern on September 13th. It's been a summer of sweat, smiles, and MILES! Over 170 Trail Crushers have already logged a whopping 43,054 MILES this summer, and we can't wait to celebrate all you overachievers!

So keep charging forward! There's still time to hit your mileage goal and earn your Summer Challenge t-shirt before September 9th. Let's finish summer strong!

Special thanks to our event partners!

Trail Brakes: Bike Sculpture

Looking for a trail-worthy photo op? Stop by the giant bicycle sculpture at Four Mile Creek Trailhead! Originally created by Joel Eddy for the 2015 UCI Road World Championships, the piece was later refurbished and generously donated by HHHunt as a commemorative art installation for the Capital Trail.
