News from the Executive Director
Dear Cap Trail Community,
We're thrilled about the upcoming construction of a fresh connector trail in Henrico County, which will stretch along Messer Road and lead to local schools. This achievement comes after years of dedicated advocacy on our part. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to Henrico County for their instrumental role in bringing this long-awaited connection to life. For more details, please take a look at the newsletter below.
Finally, this is a friendly reminder to follow Cap Trail etiquette as we head into our busiest season. Let's ensure we contribute to a positive trail experience for all users.
With Gratitude,
Cat Anthony
Executive Director

Sealing the Trail (MM 7 - MM 34) From approximately Chickahominy Riverfront Park to the Charles City - Henrico County line contractors will be crack sealing and slurry sealing the Capital Trail. They will work in sections of approximately 2 miles per day. When the contractors are working, those sections of the Capital Trail will be closed but will reopen the next day. This work will take place until September 14. During the weekends, the Capital Trail will be fully open.
Construction at Four Mile Creek Trailhead (MM 40) is ongoing with an estimated water and sewer completion towards the end of July 2024. The Trail will remain open.
Construction near Great Shiplock Park (MM 51 - MM 51.2) is under way for James River Association's education center which includes a reroute of the Virginia Capital Trail off of Dock St. Please use caution. The grand opening is slated for summer 2024.

On the morning of June 20th, after dipping the tail of their boards into the James River, a team of four longboarders: Paul Kent, Miles Kipper, Andy Andras, and Rick Stubblefield headed out of Jamestown to complete a 3,200-mile skateboarding relay across America (The Push Skate Rleay). Their first leg included riding from Williamsburg to Richmond on the Capital Trail. After 17 days and 6 hours, the athletes arrived in Newport, OR, skateboarding into the Pacific Ocean to complete their cross-country push!
