Our August 2021 Newsletter

Our heartfelt thanks go to our kind and patient patrons. The Library renovation is nearly complete! Final paving is happening today, and the green roof has been installed, and retention basin work and front landscaping is underway.
The Library is unable to open to the public as planned on Monday, August 23, 2021, due to delays in raw materials, fabrication, and shipping. Without the remaining shelving, we cannot put away relocated items or finish shelving the collections.
Additionally, COVID, weather, and other vendor issues have delayed various installations and trainings on the A/V System, new Xerox copiers, key cards and alarm/security camera, printer release software, and PC reservation software. Phones are not yet installed. While there are several punch list items we can work around, we cannot plan workflow, or learn and practice systems that have not yet been implemented, nor can we open to the public if it is not safe to do so.
Construction specialists from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) -- our grant funders -- visited this week to review the project. They were pleased with the design and had some feedback. MBLC advised remaining closed completely for two full weeks AFTER everything is set up so staff have time to acclimate - MBLC does not condone the partial opening we had intended and said we must either be fully open at 60 hours/week or closed, which puts us into September for reopening to the public. Dates will be announced as soon as possible. In the meantime, please continue to hold materials at home and use digital resources shared at www.graftonlibrary.org/digital.
A ribbon cutting ceremony is still on schedule for 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2021. Further celebrations will take place next summer.
We know how disappointing this is for the community, key stakeholders, and donors. Please know staff are doing everything in their power to be ready for opening day, we miss you, and thank you for your patience!
Beth Gallaway,
Library Director

In August, we packed and moved! Key turnover happened Friday August 13. Most furniture and shelving was installed. Landscaping continued. Final paving and multiple trainings have been scheduled. AMH installation was completed and staff were trained. We are looking forward to reopening in September!

by Kim Harrison
Rachel Morgan is a runner with the
Inderland Runner Services, apprehending law-
breakers throughout Cincinnati. She is also a witch, one of the many Inderlanders who
revealed themselves after a genetically engineered virus wiped out 50 percent of
humanity. Witches, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and the creatures of dreams and
nightmares have lived beside humans for centuries, hiding their powers. But now
they have stopped hiding, and nothing will be the same! On the run with a contract on her

Fun, sassy, filled with action, humor, and romance, Dead Witch Walking is the perfect summer read for anyone who likes vampires, paranormal fantasy, romance, or just a great beach book. Mind & Body Series - Teen/Adult Spotlight
|
|
|
The Grafton Public Library & Grafton Land Trust invite you to exercise your mind and body this summer! Grab your hiking boots, a good book, and explore the beautiful local trails around town.
Local Girl Scout Gold Award candidate Madison Berardi created the Grafton Land Trust Reference Guide that is now available for checkout at the Library (and all 4 elementary schools!) and we are in the process of developing a series of booklists and social media promotions encouraging residents to exercise body and mind: take a hike with a good book! Madison's beautifully photographed and captioned fact-filled guide book might be a good place to start.
