As always in Minnesota, where has the summer gone?  Our family has tried to use every day to our advantage this year, as we lost a lot of our 2014 summer.  Now recovered, we have been hitting the lake in Okoboji for boating and visiting a lot of local carnivals and ice cream shops with Dillon.

Our family recently had an amazing turning point as my nephew, Oliver Smith, left to join the Naval Academy on a basketball scholarship. At 6'10" he was a hot prospect and a great ball player for Waconia High School while also maintaining a 4.0 grade point average. We couldn't be prouder of him, as he just finished his three weeks of basic training.  I have no doubt he is going to do something amazing with his life!

As many of you are sending your kids off to college, I wish you the best of luck. It is hard to let go of your child, but it will be so rewarding to see what they make of themselves. One thing I have recommended to parents with college bound kids, besides tissues and comfort food, is to get some estate planning documents drafted for them. A really short will, health care directive and Power of Attorney can save you a lot of headaches if your child is long-distance. Call me if you have questions about it. I know a few good attorneys! J
