Welcoming the Newest Addition to Our Team: Dr. Justin Maher!
We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Maher is officially joining the Wellesley Family Care team this month and is currently accepting patients!
Dr. Maher joined Wellesley Family Care Associates in 2026 after graduating from a family medicine residency program in Greenfield, Massachusetts where he served as chief resident. While there, his focuses included providing preventative medicine, chronic disease management, as well as in-office procedures.
He received his B.S. of Biology and Chemistry at Brandeis University before moving down to Grenada for medical school. After graduating, he returned to Massachusetts to finish his residency in Greenfield. In his spare time he enjoys playing board games, hiking, and reading.
Please join us in giving Dr. Maher a warm welcome to the practice!

Understanding Your Annual Physical Exam
A quick guide on what is included in your preventive visit—and how insurance billing works.
We love taking time to focus entirely on your long-term health! Preventive visits (annual physicals or wellness exams) are designed specifically to review routine health screenings, update immunizations, and discuss overall wellness goals.
✔ Covered under Preventive Care:
- Routine physical examination & vital signs
- Review of medical history & health risk assessments
- Age-appropriate screening recommendations (e.g., mammograms, colonoscopies)
- Standard routine immunizations & preventive counseling
|
⚠️ May Result in a Separate Office Visit Charge:
- Evaluating or treating new symptoms or illness (e.g., joint pain, rash, cough)
- Managing chronic medical conditions (e.g., adjusting diabetes, blood pressure, or cholesterol medications)
- Addressing a detailed list of non-preventive medical concerns
|
Why does this happen? Insurance companies set rules for what is covered during a routine physical. If the visit includes addressing non-preventive concerns, your insurance company may process that part of the visit toward a co-pay or deductible.
How to Get the Most Out of Your Visit:
To give your health concerns the dedicated time they deserve, we recommend booking a standard office visit alongside or separate from your routine physical!

🍼 August is National Breastfeeding Month!
This month, we're celebrating the incredible benefits of breastfeeding and supporting every family's unique feeding journey.
|
Did You Know?
- Babies are born with an incredible sense of smell and can recognize their parent's breast milk by scent within days of birth.
- Breast milk changes throughout a feeding starting thinner to quench thirst and becoming richer in fat as the feeding continues.
- Breast milk isn't always white! Depending on diet, it can appear slightly yellow, bluish, or even green-tinted, and that's often completely normal.
- Every ounce of breast milk contains millions of living cells, antibodies, and beneficial bacteria that help support your baby's immune system.
- Breastfed babies don't just receive nutrition they also receive antibodies that help protect them from illnesses their parent has recently been exposed to.
Whether you're expecting, just welcomed your baby, returning to work, or simply have questions along the way, our Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) is here to help. From latching and milk supply to pumping and feeding plans, we're proud to provide personalized, evidence-based support to help you meet your breastfeeding goals.
To schedule an appointment or ask a question, send us a message on Patient Gateway or call our office!

✏️ Ready, Set, Back to School! 🎒
A quick checklist to get your kids healthy, rested, and ready for the new school year!
✔️ 1. Vaccines & School Forms
Make sure your child's required immunizations and annual physical are up to date before the first day of school. Need forms completed? Send them through Patient Gateway or bring them to your next visit!
⏰ 2. Reset the Sleep Clock
Start shifting bedtimes 10–15 minutes earlier each night about two weeks before school begins. A gradual routine makes those early mornings much easier!
⚽ 3. Sports Physical Reminder
Playing a fall sport? In Massachusetts, sports physicals are valid for 13 months. Check your child's last exam date now so they're cleared before practices and tryouts begin.
💊 4. School Medication Check
Does your child need an inhaler, EpiPen, or other medication at school? Be sure medications, action plans, and any required school forms are completed before the first day.
🥪 5. Fuel for Success
Pack balanced lunches and healthy snacks, and don't forget a refillable water bottle! Good nutrition and hydration help kids stay energized, focused, and ready to learn.
👀 August is Children’s Eye Health & Safety Month!
Healthy vision plays an important role in learning. Keep an eye out for these signs that may indicate your child is having vision problems:
- Squinting, rubbing eyes, or frequent blinking
- Holding books or tablets very close to their face
- Complaining of frequent headaches or eye fatigue after reading
- Losing their place while reading or using a finger to track words
- Tilting their head to one side to look at things
Need to check something off your back-to-school list?
Whether it's a physical, immunizations, school forms, or medication paperwork, we're here to help get your family ready for the school year.
