Cordoba Academy - August Updates
Highlights from our STREAM and Summer Camps!
  • This was our first time offering a STREAM camp where students learned how to code and apply engineering and design principles using Minecraft. Kids worked on problem solving together and experienced art painting for cognitive and hands-on learning.

  • Summer camp started off strong with a beautiful hike at Snoqualmie Falls on Monday. Kids got to enjoy nature and learn about the importance of keeping the environment clean and healthy.

  • Tuesday was marked by a visit to the Burke Museum at the University of Washington. Kids engaged in a scavenger hunt as they learned about indigenous tribes around the world and locally, animals, and dinosaurs.

  • Wednesday was a trip to the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. Everyone got to see, learn, and touch the animals while enjoying the summer weather.

  • Thursday was a Field Day at the beach in Kingston. Everyone took an exciting trip on the ferry across the Salish Sea/Puget Sound. Kids then got to enjoy the ocean, play volleyball, and find and learn about low-tide animals residing in the area.

  • Friday’s Summer Camp Party finished off our camp! Kids and volunteers celebrated their new friends and experiences with a bouncy house, water gun battles, and a taco bar. Everyone then shared what they learned at our end of camp ceremony.

In keeping with our mission of educating the whole person, each day of camp was completed with prayer and a reflection on the teachings of Allah (SWT).

Virtues of the Month of Muharram
Muharram is the 1st month of the Hijri calendar. This month is also known as "Allah's month" and is one of the four sacred months mentioned in the Qur'an [9:36]. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) highly recommended fasting on the 10th of Muharram, also known as Ashura, as a means to expiate one's minor sins from the previous year.

"The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'The best of fasting after Ramadan is fasting Allah's month of Muharram. "
(Sahih Muslim 1982)
