CONNECTION

We hope you will join us in bidding farewell to summer and embracing the season of gratitude at our upcoming potluck picnic on Thursday, September 14th.This year, we have a new location: the Three Oaks Recreation Pavilion. There is no parking fee for those outside of Crystal Lake, simply inform the gate attendant that you're with the Senior Care Volunteer Network.

The sunset, winding paths, and serene lake views promise to be spectacular. Yet, what truly makes our gatherings meaningful and significant is you—our volunteers, and your hearts of service. Your impact in the community and the lives of others, month after month, is inspiring.

We are looking forward to recapping our summer activities, sharing upcoming volunteer trainings, and revealing opportunities that fall holds. There will be games, lots of good food, and, above all, great company. Whether you choose to come alone or bring the family, you're guaranteed to forge new connections and friendships.

Mark your calendars for October 17th and 18th, because you won't want to miss our AARP Safe Driver Class! With a curriculum designed to make you a more vigilant and informed driver, this program is more than just a refresher course; it’s a smart investment in your safety on the road.

Dates: October 17th & 18th

Time: 9:30am - 1:30pm (Both days mandatory for certificate)

Where: SCVN Office - 42 East Street, Crystal Lake

A light meal will be provided

Maneuver Like a Pro: Learn tried-and-true techniques for handling left turns, navigating roundabouts, and understanding right-of-way.

As a thank-you for your volunteer efforts, we're covering the entire cost of the class, which usually amounts to $25 for non-AARP members and $20 for AARP members.

9/4 | Labor Day - Office Closed

SCVN will be participating this year in Planet Palooza on the Woodstock Square. We'll be volunteering in 2 hour shifts. Join us and help promote SCVN while celebrating community! Info booths, music, food trucks and kid activities. Let Kerri know you can volunteer!

10/14-10/15 | Fall Diddley!

SCVN is returning to Fall Diddley! Fall Diddley is a craft show held at the Boone County Fairgrounds with more than 300 vendors. Put on by The Mental Health Resource League for McHenry County, proceeds from Fall Diddley go to support many non-profit organizations - SCVN included! Help us support them, as they support us, and keep an eye out for the sign up email to be sent separately on August 31st. There are a lot of options for volunteering - something for everyone! Thank you in advance for considering volunteering at Fall Diddley - we hope to see you there!

SHIP Counseling

Are you a Medicare participant? The SCVN office will be a host site on Thursdays through the open enrollment period for Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) counseling provided by the Harvard Community Senior Center. Appointments are required.
