August, 2018

In last month's newsletter, we took a look at the increasing challenge of finding and keeping affordable housing here in Wake County. It's an issue for many of those who are served by Western Wake Crisis Ministry and it's a conversation we are called to join.  As the world around us changes, our organization is also changing to meet the needs of our neighbors in ways that help provide more sustainable solutions.

To that end, we are pleased to announce The HOME Project This pilot program is partially funded through a grant from Publix Supermarket Charities and is designed to help families at risk of becoming homeless.

Annika Spivey, Client Advocate for WWCM, explains. "The HOME Project is  a relationship-based initiative. We'll be working as a team with those who are a good fit for this program, creating a plan to stabilize their housing situation and home finances. This includes direct financial assistance as well coaching from WWCM and coordinating services with other community agencies. We're making the commitment to work with people long-term and to help build their support network."

The HOME Project will serve individuals and families in the Apex, New Hill, Friendship and Holly Springs areas. WWCM volunteers will be able to contribute as team members.

"The number of people who came in contact with homeless services in Wake County increased by 31% since 2015," says Spivey, "and Apex is no exception. We're excited to add this new dimension to the way Western Wake Crisis ministry serves our community."

Next month: the conversation continues as we look at how a family is helped through The HOME Project.

We're excited to introduce "Family Signs" for this year's golf outing. For just $300, your individual or company gift will feed a family for a whole month, plus we'll include your family name or logo on one of what we hope will be a wonderful parade of signs decorating the golf course. Just use the donate button below (or on our website) and put a note in the comments section. It's a great way to contribute and help a family in need.

Also new this year, the option to register a team. Each foursome receives boxed lunches, snacks and drinks along the course, reservations for the awards dinner, a Family Sign, and social media recognition.
In addition, sponsorships are still available but going fast.

Check out our new refreshed websiteIf you'd like to keep up with what's going on at WWCM, we have a new  CALENDAR . And the section on our SERVICES provides those seeking help with a clear and easy-to-understand overview of how we serve our neighbors. (Take a look at it and if you know of someone in need, please refer them to this section of our site.) Volunteer opportunities are also updated regularly (see below).

Mark your calendar to enjoy a delicious meal at upcoming Mamma Mia Italian Bistro's give-back nights.  The dine-out occurs two consecutive Wednesdays & Thursdays, August 22-23 and 29-30, during lunch (10:30 am - 2:30 pm) and dinner (4:00 pm - 9:00 pm).  Location: 708 Laura Duncan Rd., Apex, NC 27502.
