Portland Youth Dance (PYD) is the resident youth company at Casco Bay Movers, offering pre-professional dance training to dedicated dancers ages 10-18 years. PYD has three main tracks: Company, which focuses on modern, jazz, and contemporary forms; Crew, which focuses on hip hop forms; and PYD 2, an exploratory group geared toward dancers 10-18. PYD was founded in 1998 as an alternative to competitive dance and is a 501(c)(3) organization run by a volunteer Board of Directors. PYD’s robust community class program provides access to free/low-barrier dance classes.

Join us for our final information session of the season on Monday, August 10, from 6-6:30 pm at Casco Bay Movers Dance Studio.

Ballet Bloom News

Back by popular demand, Rose Hutchins’s production of The Little Mermaid returns to the stage at Biddeford's City Theater following its sold-out 2024 premiere in Portland, Maine.

With original music by composer Evan Hart Marsh, this contemporary ballet unites the beauty of classical ballet with expressive contemporary aesthetics and dramatic theatricality to weave a poignant tale of love, sacrifice, and transformation based on Hans Christian Andersen’s timeless story.

With a masterful blend of whimsy, humor, and emotional depth, this production engages audiences of all ages. Prepare to be swept into an enchanting world of movement, music, and storytelling!

Experience this magical production in two formats:

a full-length ballet on Friday, August 7 at 7:30 PM​or an abbreviated, narrated ballet on Saturday, August 8 at 2 PM.

Open Classes with

little house dance

Tuesdays 1030 am - noon, ongoing

Deepen your relationship with your body and dance little house. Classes are taught by members of little house and guest artists. These classes are geared toward movers of all levels and for folks who are looking to expand their knowledge and understanding of improvisation and movement training. Our classes explore various training modalities including improvisation, spontaneous composition, authentic movement, floor work, and release technique.
