August and September 2022

Through the course of two years, individuals have faced many new changes, challenges, and general uncertainties. Despite these obstacles, our campus community has continued to overcome these challenges together. This process of adapting to difficult situations and finding a way to push forward is called Resilience. Typically we believe resilience is a process of being able to “figure it out” on our own. Contrary to this belief, a large component of resilience is being able to reach out for support, whether to an individual or making use of a resource. As a community, resilience means that we not only attend to our individual health and wellbeing, but also that of our colleagues and friends.
As we approach the fall semester, there are many outlets and programs in place to provide support to the UC Berkeley community. Be Well at Work Faculty/Staff Health Programs offers a variety of programs, workshops, and resources to support your health and wellbeing and this semester, some workshops will be in-person only, others will be virtual, and a few will be a hybrid of both! In addition, many are recorded and posted to our Virtual Programs webpage. Whether you are seeking advice on nutrition, mental health matters, or even personal affairs, Be Well at Work has a wide range of professionals available to provide guidance and support. Explore the Be Well at Work webpage and download the Fall Faculty/Staff Workshops and Resources flyer when available!

Breastfeeding Awareness Month
|
|
Did you know that August is National Breastfeeding Awareness Month? Across the country, many organizations are joining the U.S. Breastfeeding Committee in their efforts in advancing advocacy, protection, promotion, and awareness to ensure that mothers have the opportunity to breastfeed.
Here at UC Berkeley, we have a campus wide Breastfeeding Support Program (BFSP) in place to provide more access and resources to our community. Coordinated by the Be Well at Work Wellness Program, the BFSP manages lactation rooms across campus stocked with Ameda hospital grade breast pumps, personal hygienikits sold at cost, and breastfeeding classes hosted by certified lactation consultants. For more information on the services provided by the BFSP, check out the program's main webpage!

Recipe of
the Month:
This tasty no-cook snack is great for the start of a busy school year. Originally introduced in our Recipes for Disaster Preparedness class, this recipe can be made without power or special equipment, whether it’s a power outage or just a hot day when you don’t want to turn on the stove/oven. It’s lightly sweet and packed full of fiber and healthy fats to tide you over between meals.

Campus Memorial
September 1 | 12pm | Flagpole West of California Hall
All are invited to attend this event which includes brief remarks by the Chancellor, and a reading of the names of those being remembered, followed by music and spoken word.
In coming together to remember and to honor the lives of the deceased, we reach out to our many colleagues and friends who have suffered loss, as we share in a universal human experience. This ceremony symbolizes the care and support that distinguishes the Berkeley community.
