A Note from Our

Donations Manager...

Dear Friends,

I want to take a moment to remind you that our Donations hours have temporarily changed due to the extreme heat. We are incredibly thankful to our leadership for allowing us to make this change for the safety of our staff and volunteers. And we are equally grateful to you, our community, for noting these new hours and donating your gently used items to The Caring Place. I am very proud of this Donations team this summer. They always go above and beyond in any circumstance and this heat has been no exception. They look forward to greeting you Monday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the 2000 Railroad Avenue drive-through. We will operate during these temporary hours until the extreme heat breaks. Watch for notifications about our schedule on our website and on Social Media.

In other news, our furniture pick-up service is expanding its service area! If you have quality furniture in good condition, we'd love to pick it up for you. In the Donations section below you'll find our new map and learn how to have your items picked up.

Thank you once again for supporting our mission at The Caring Place by donating items. It is one of the easiest ways to support our mission to provide for basic needs in our community. I hope you'll now read the rest of the newsletter to learn what else is happening at The Caring Place.

Stay Cool,

Justin Arzola, Donations Manager

Jill, the Communications Manager, was working on a video project which would include some enthusiastic staff to cheer behind her. She knew the Donations team would understand the assignment.  And they did! Be sure to visit them in the Donations drive-through soon!

Volunteering

One thing about our volunteers is they all have a story to tell.  With the recent addition of a summer intern in the Communications department, we've decided to start sharing some of those stories.

We think you will love these short insights into who our volunteers are, why they are here, and some of the fun they have while volunteering.  You'll also note they have pretty big hearts!

While we probably won't get around to telling a story from EVERY volunteer, we hope the ones you read will make you smile, and maybe even inspire you to volunteer yourself!

Meet Betty

Betty has been working to sort, inspect, price, and put out shoes, purses, and hats in the stores. While I'm sure she has worn many hats throughout her life, with such commitment to The Caring Place, one "hat" has undoubtedly become and still is hats.

Meet Patricia

Despite being a busy Social Work student and now living in Austin, Patricia prioritizes volunteering in The Caring Place's Food Pantry. Every Friday, she makes the trip to The Caring Place to stock shelves and assist shoppers. She says, "Even though it's...

Meet the Intern

We'd love to introduce you to Alexis McCammon. She is a Southwestern student who applied for a volunteer internship in our Communications department this summer. We couldn't be more proud of all the work she has accomplished. She focused on adding content by writing on our blog and enhancing our Social Media. She is responsible for many of the fun Reels you may have seen on The Caring Place's Instagram account this summer. Beyond assisting with several additional marketing and communications tasks, Alexis worked in every department to fully understand this organization. She's weathered the heat with our Donations team, participated in outdoor food distribution in Bartlett, shopped with clients in our Food Pantry, and worked as a backup cashier in our thrift store. She has gained an inside look at The Caring Place through her many jobs and volunteer interviews. Her time with us ends this month, although we hope she continues to check in with us because we will greatly miss her many contributions! During Alexis' first week here, she was already writing about her first impressions at The Caring Place, and you can read that first story HERE on our blog. You will probably see more of her work featured in this newsletter into the fall as we continue publishing the many volunteer stories she worked on. What's Alexis doing next? She's graduating from Southwestern in December with a degree in Philosophy and looking at programs offering a Master's in Education to pursue her love of teaching. It's definitely our hope that The Caring Place taught her a thing or two that she can take with her as she pursues educating young minds. Perhaps she can ensure every child grows up with a penchant for caring. That's a big job, Alexis! We think you can do it!
