I’m a really stubborn person…just ask my family! So, I don’t like being told what to do, and after all, who does?? But, I’m here to tell you that the Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Minneapolis Annual Online Auction is about to launch on Aug. 28, and you don’t want to miss it! Our slogan is “You Know You’re Going To Do It…Now Do It For Good!” And believe me, this is very good advice…because even though it’s annoying to be told what to do….you know you really do want “that” gift certificate to Bacio, “those” tickets to the Vikings, and “that” certificate for a massage. Not to mention, you might also want “that” sailing school gift certificate, or “that” fabulous trip…all of which you’ll find online beginning Aug. 28! And c’mon, we all shop online these days and “this” online shopping will support the critical work of JFCS serving so many in our community. But don’t wait too long because the auction closes on Sept. 6!

Don't miss it: JFCS 2018 Annual Online Auction: Aug. 28 through Sept. 6

Summer reading: Good books don’t come in pink and blue
By Leah Persky • Family Life Education Manager

It is hard to ignore the fact that summer is slowly coming to an end: back-to-school sales are everywhere, the sun is setting earlier each evening, and the countdown to the first day of school has begun for many of us. While it is easy to get swept away in all of the planning and thoughts of fall, many of us are not quite ready to let go of summer and the slower pace of life with the kids.

JFCS and World Refugee Day
Twin Cities World Refugee Day is a family oriented event celebrating the many thousands of refugees in Minnesota through song, dance, food, and storytelling. The purpose is to provide a platform for refugee stories and artistic practices, to honor their lives, and to raise awareness of the millions forced to flee their homes. By putting art at the center of this event, the event hopes to build bridges across the current political and cultural divides to celebrate the resiliency of our vibrant community.

For the second year in a row, JFCS participated in World Refugee Day in July at Loring Park in Minneapolis. Thank you to our staff who were on hand to share information about JFCS services.
J-Pride High Holiday events: A selection of reflective gatherings and services
The Jewish High Holidays bring in a new year, ushering in a powerful time of transformation, transition, and growth. Many LGBTQ Jews are more than familiar with the power of self-reflection, and entering the New Year as whole people. Please join J-Pride for a powerful and reflective selection of gatherings and services that help us move through time as both Jewish and queer people. There will be time to daven, sing, socialize, nosh, and learn.
